Only thing I can think of is that the Mustang didn't have traction at first, and the WRX pulled ahead. I had that happen a lot with my GT when I raced STI's, then I'd pull them by about 75-80. (when I had street tires)

actually I know how to launch my car, and the kid obviously had traction issues. I was putting down 1.73 60' times which is pretty quick. When I say kid I mean the kid couldnt have been older than 18. He bought the car already done up from a guy. I asked him what he would drive in the winter and he looked at me kinda funny, kinda like he hadnt thought that far. as far as crazy numbers I dont have anything too nuts. stage 2 sti running 18.5 psi

from what it seems, unless a mustang has some really fat tread, any half way decent driver in a WRX should rip apart a mustang off the line. one thing us mustang owners is get are cars on a diet. without a passenger a 99-04 GT should weigh close to 3300lbs(can you say fatty?) in theory lol if we could get are tanks down to about 3K....pretty sure id be a much better competitor. ive personally managed to shave about 80-100lbs off mine! defently can notice a differance.

quiet cars have to open the hood to sound loud

But I did find it funny that my friends new mustang has "SPEED VOLUME" from 10% at 0mph to 100% at 90 mph. ( we drove around trying to gauge it)

I've beaten 7 or 8 mustangs with my Grand Prix with no upgrades. Just the standard 3.8 V6.

I can't keep up with a new mustang GT, they accelerate way too quick for my grand prix, unless they don't get off the line good, or are in rain.

I would imagine a new exhaust, downpipes, intake, and spray would make a worthy opponent of a WRX STi or a WRX with a few tunes/upgrades.
