i just read an article that claimed the 08 wrx sedan 0-60 time was 4.7 seconds and the 08 subaru wrx sti hatch had a 0-60 of 5.0 seconds.
could this actually be true? that the sti has a slower 0-60 time?

The 2008 wrx clocks in the mid 5's in the 0-60. the '09 is around 4.7 sec. When comparing the '09 wrx to the sti, I believe wrx does have a quicker 0-60.

I highly bout that any manufacturer will make a car with lower spec faster than its bigger brother!

since they bumped up the power for the wrx this year to 265, do you think that a performance boost is coming to sti in the next year. with 0-60 numbers so close it is hard for many people to justify paying another 7-9k for an sti instead of the wrx

I'm pretty sure the only reason it gains more HP than 08 is because they put the SPT exhaust and tune it, costs more.

yea the extra shift makes the sti a bit slower. of course the sti responds better to stage II so if you dont plan on staying stock then the sti will be faster. but ive always thought it would be way more fun to save $7-10k and get a wrx then use the money to mod. with even $5000 i can make my car much faster than a stock sti
i own an 08 sedan also and i got 5.2 at stage 1 its just difficult to get a perfect launch. the td04 spools up quicker, plus the one less shift is an extra .4 seconds on a good shift. its not that the wrx makes more power at all, its just 0-60 is faster but over that the td04 pretty much craps out.
