The HP difference in the 09 is a tune and a VF52 turbo, also a better exhaust. It's mainly the VF52, though.

Yeah I did some snooping after I posted and noted it had a slightly larger turbo on it. IMO the difference 08-09 was in 09 they relised people didn't want a family car and had to fix that problem.. lol.

Yeah, definitely. The only model of WRX I haven't driven is the 08, but my 09 is much faster than the 02, 04, and 07 I've driven. It actually feels a bit quicker than my buddy's 07 STI. Subaru had to beef it up due to the competition with the Mazdaspeed3 and the new Lancer Ralliart. The Lancer can't even compete anymore, and the MS3 can't compare in suspension, and they're all equally priced.

Ralliart is a joke to any wrx imo. I saw some chump launch it and it didn't sound or look that impressive.

    Ouch.

I should mention that a couple of my best (male) friends can't drive a stick. Both are younger than me...is this a trend? When I was in high school, it seemed like 80% of the guys around me could drive a manual. Is it the same these days?

From what ive read the 09 STI is only .1 faster in the quarter mile than the WRX.

Yeah, depends on who you read. C&D claims the WRX is .1 faster than the STI.

    C&D is wrong
Sigh. This again. the 09 wrx has longer gears and makes it to 60 w one shift. The STi takes 2 shifts. The wrx gets there .1 sec faster. To 60. After that, the STi takes over. Let's all beat a dead horse again. /thread

I think my best friend put it best after whomping on his co-workers 09 at the track:

"Fortunately, the extra $10K you spend on an STI comes with more than just 0-60 times."

    From Edmunds:

    "The WRX also runs a sub-14 quarter-mile 13.7 seconds at 98.7 mph.
Some suggest that the 2009 WRX will out-drag an STI, but the quickest STI we've tested ran a 4.5-second 0-60 time and a 13.3-second quarter at 100.3 mph.
