Oh, I forgot... suspension didn't add to being nimble....

Still faster than a "37" in the twisties.

*Sport brakes with 4-piston opposed front calipers with 14-inch rotors and 2-piston opposed rear calipers with 13.8-inch rotors
*Unique front fascia and side sills
*Solid-magnesium paddle shifters (not available with 6-speed manual transmission)
*Front sport [bucket] seats with manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment

Can someone explain to me the mechanics of Audi's Quattro system that makes it superior to Subaru's AWD system?

Also, we're comparing AWD systems in the context of performance right? Is it possible to rate a car's AWD system by street driving?

I find your passion and regard for your 08 wrx admirable but I deffinately think your a bit disillusioned about your car, and this is comming from someone who just traded his 08 wrx in. Don't get me wrong, for the price(I paid 20,000 out the door, tags fees etc) it's a great car but it is the worst handling of all the recent wrx's. I havent driven the other cars you're comparing, so you could deffinately still be correct in terms of the wrx's all wheel drive system matching up to them but I have owned a 99 gsx-t, 2003 Evo, an 08 wrx and now an 06 sti and have driven many similar cars and I would say the awd system on the 08 wrx was by far the worst. It had the widest turning base and the most roll of all three cars.

Well one other AWD car I drove was a 02' Jaguar X-Type, while it isn't German you'd think its a $50k luxury AWD car would feel more solid and planted on the road and I think my 08' WRX felt more planted and solid to the road, The AWD system on the Jag was awesome but once again not planted.

Perfection in my eyes and is my opinion, what you may feel is cool I may feel is dumb, preference my friend.

Actually the Audi 1.8T I drove just came out of the service dept. I belive it was getting an oil change and long with whatever else the dealers do when you service your car. Seemed to be in tip top shape.

subaru is lacking hard in there awd technology. even sabb i think now offers "xwd" that differs power from side to side as well as front to rear. which nissan, mistu and audi have done for along time. you can't even get a subaru with a limited slip front and rear. (correct me if i'm wrong) i think the sti gets a front lsd and a open rear while the reg wrx is open front and rear.
Actually I believe only the 08 wrx is open front and rear. I know previous wrx's had the lsd but im not sure if every model before the 08 has it or not. I know the 08 was the first model it was removed from due to addition of the Electrionic stability system.

    Just checking

Isn't the Altessa the JDM moniker for the Lexus 300is? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Cars arent just magically appearing in AWD. They've been around forever throughout Ford and Chryslers line up, as well as other companies.

If you are shopping around you need to actually compare the AWD systems in the two vehciles. IMHO Infinitis "Atlessa" AWD system is good. It is not on par with Subaru's or Audi's. The platform is RWD bias and can/will transfer power on slip.

I actually like my 08' and think its wonderful, while I haven't had the chance to drive previous models of the WRX, I do feel the handling on the car stock is WAY better then the cars I did mention - Jag X-Type, A4 1.8T, A6 2.7T, once again this is going off what I feel - what I feel can't be wrong in terms of what you feel or read.

Cars and their performance reviews are very subjective... what feels good to one person may not to another. Turning base to me seems fine to me vs the other cars I've driven. Because you traded your 08 in doesn't mean the car isn't good, just means you prefered the 06 STi for a more aggresive ride, you can't compare STi to WRX that's like comparing Chrysler 300 to Chrysler 300 SRT8.

The car does what I need it to do, and I like the way it does it. I research on how I can make it better because lets face it in our world there's always room for improvement - I did it with my 2000 Max, and my 91 SE-R and now my 08 WRX. I think overall the 08 WRX is super, I've ran side by side with my fren's 335i on twisties, on a straight yeah he leaves me, to me the car has balls which is a good thing may not be as much balls as previous models.

Uh did you read that wiki link?

"attesa" is the AWD system used in the GT-R (ATTESA -Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

and "altezza" is the jap version of an IS300 (Lexus IS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

So to correct 2004NeonSRT4 and Shello007 - the "Altezza" is the jdm moniker for the Lexus IS300.

Man...and here I was thinking all this time that to reduce roll and increase my turning radius, I needed to work on my suspension and steering ratios/gearing. Silly me....I should have been looking at the AWD system.
