Stock 04 wrx vs turboed civic

So my buddy keeps asking me to race my stock wrx against his honda civic. I keep telling him i dnt want to waste my time he says hes got me from a roll and from the dig. His Civic is a coupe with a b18, with a Greddy t3/t4 turbo. He wants to bet me fifty dollors on both races from a roll, and dig. any ideas on how his civic will match up to the wrx... should i take the bet

04 stock wrx vs turboed civic

So my buddy keeps challenging my subaru to two races. One from a roll and from the dig. I keep telling him im not gunna waste my time and he thinks he can beat me in both by a long shot. A 1/4 mile race and he wants to put 50 dollars on each race. His civic is a coupe with a b18, with a t3/t3 greddy turbo. any ideas on who would win.. should i take the bet

hahahah dont get too confident, i hate people that underestimate hondas just because theres no many ricers.

a b18 coupe turboed will eat u alive from a roll. all he needs to do is put down at least 200 whp which im sure hes putting down at least 250 whp

He'd win assuming he knows how to launch.

+1 but I'm assuming such things as his car is setup well, and he's using decent tires.

You might have a chance from a dig if he F's up his launch, but otherwise the outlook is grim....

You'll need at least stage 2 power. That's a Turboback exhaust, uppipe, and engine management. Getting a better TMIC plus a protune should yield another 15whp or more over the OTS maps.

Don't race from a roll. That will most likely end in failure unless you have an upgraded hairdryer in there...

well I dont know exactly but i would like to put some mods into my subie regardless the price. I just dont want to put more the a grand or few into it. How much does an uppipe come out to be if i install it my self and what is a manufacturer you would recommend or does it not really make much of a difference

+1, there are a few diamonds in the rough out there.

If the guy knows how to drive a honda, and his tires are able to hook then a race even from a dig would be close.

Think about your goals and where you want to be. Stage 2 is the best ratio of $/hp increase your gonna get. Once you start to exceed Stage 2 levels the ratio of $ spent to hp gained goes up significantly on average.

Swapping the uppipe is quite the job for a rookie. The cheapest route is to gut your own uppipe. Then it only costs you the price of new gaskets and half a day of your time.

also go through and read all the stickies in this forum, and over on NASIOC. You have a lot to learn, but its all worth it.

Get 2 pieces for NOW.... COBB AP and a downpipe with the stock exhaust. That should do it for the race(s) then go with what they said on the UP.
