Or...you could do that. I mean....who really wants peace of mind? I'm sure that cat will hold! Turn up that boost!

so today we were in his car and we decided to test his zero to sixty with a stop watch. The first time he ran a 12.3 and the second time 11.2. I expected it to be alot quicker so i think from a dig i have him by a few car lengths and from a roll no higher than 20mph

no those are the 0-60 times lol he says his tires suck and his sparkplugs are bad but i think its just because he sucks at shifting. and besides the turbo set up and the b18 is completley stock so he cannot run too many psi's of boost

Are u kidding me ? You know what... run what you brung... Watch him grenade his car trying... My wife's ION could take it.... ( pitiful )

Don't spend the money.... Right now at least....

a B18 on 5 lbs of boost SHOULD run 14's at best.... (guestimating) He has more issues than tires and plugs

And if you have to worry about a Catalytic getting sucked into the turbo off a couple races..... Then the rex you have needs to be put to sleep.

He wants to bet me fifty dollors on both races from a roll, and dig. any ideas on how his civic will match up to the wrx... should i take the bet
First you need to know what b18 he has, b18a/b=GS/LS... you might have a chance before it spools. b18c/c5 It will own.

suit yourself. I bet you'd feel different if you owned a pre-06 rex. For me the uppipe was the first to go. Many here feel the same way.

and ya. an 11 sec 0-60 time is 16+ seconds in the quarter. I wouldn't worry about a thing....except how to tow him him once his car breaks down.

That 0-60 sounds horrendous. A PROPERLY swapped and boosted b18b in a civic can run low 14's high 13's with ease. If that truly is his 0-60, he better get it checked out before something goes BOOM! On the other hand, he might be eggshelling that gas pedal to hustle you out of fifty bucks.

I have been a subie owner for 2+ years and have enuff mechanical experience to get around and have ONLY heard of 2-3 ppl having problems w/the UP and cat....

I own an 07 because I did my homework for 4 years on these cars.... As I did on several previous vehicles.

You would have to run redline for 5 minutes ( pullin it outta somewhere) and run greater than stock boost for it to grenade on you.

BTW.... he's talkin about running against my grandmother or the shoe that was thrown at George Bush .....

Where did you come up with this 5 minute number? I run 19 psi so for me its important. I can't imagine not replacing it.

BTW its not redline (or specific RPM for that matter) that determines if a catcon will fail. Its a combination of EGT, AFR's, and CFM. The most detrimental combinations of which do not always take place at redline.

I believe you that you have only heard of a couple people that have had such a failure, but when its not covered by warranty, is not 10hp gain + quicker spool + no chance of dead turbo worth 10$ in gaskets and a little time?
