    06 07 sti vs mazdaspeed 3

who do u predict would win, mazdaspeed 3 with a fujita intake(i know that it does a lot for the speed3), or a stage 1 sti?

lets say from a 45 second gear roll.

STI stg 1 for sure. I have a friend that has a Mazda speed3 and they are great cars, but it's not quite strong enough to take an STI. Here is a video of us just cruising down Palomar. It's no race because we're on public roads, but you get the idea.. STI and Mazda 3speed cruise down palomar on Vimeo

Yes, I have heard that, but with front wheel drive vs AWD I am not sure the 20whp would change the outcome. A stg 1 STI is pretty strong and hooks up very well. Cobb has a stg 1, I believe is estimated at 340 ft/lbs TQ at the fly. Any numbers on the Mazda?

With the type of race that the op described AWD is a hinderance not a help.

AWD is better from a dead stop. i've raced turbo ls/vtec civics from a stop and walked them but from a roll they can keep up. im sure a more educated person can give you the exact reason im not sure of it so im not gonna put up any statements that im not positive about.

He suggested that the race would be from a roll. Once launched, AWD becomes a hindrance because of much greater driveline losses, compared to a 2WD vehicle.

Overly simplistic answer: More wheels to turn = more for the engine to overcome before actually putting down power to the ground.

    Yup.

Your awd does nothing in a straight line at those speeds in dry pavement but soak up horsepower that could be going to just 2 wheels instead of 4.

45mph do not go into 2nd, start in 3rd.

IIRC the Mazda speed3 doesn't give you full power in the first 2 gears to help with torque steer and tire slippage. It limits the throttle inputs coming from the pedal. So from a dig I bet the STi would win. Even from a roll I would hope the STi would still win. They're both turbo fours and come on it's an STI!

ok the reason it limits the psi is because of traction loss. a simple ecu tune can get rid of that, but im just saying 45 roll second gear. who would win
