Need ideas to help with my situation

I hate damp days in my truck and it's got a LSD and 305 width tires. My 97 Eclipse GST convertible was a nice cruiser but I was SOL if it was wet and it was 99% stock. Just getting up to speed was a challenge, though it was an open diff and crap stock tires.

I loved my 89 Mirage turbo - it could peel a tire from a 70 punch (open diff and 195 width tires FTW). It was hard to nail a launch vs anything but another FWD car but on a roll its 14b and 1.6 liters defied physics vs. cars that should have won on paper. I've driven a couple of 20g'ed FWD DSMs and they were fantastic up top. Bigger turbos are just traction control for FWD

Oh, and I'm always WOT in the rain because I know the other people can't. Sure there are plenty of days of good weather but a solid week of cold rain in the winter or the insta-showers we get in the summer will drive you crazy.

Like you said, I'd recommend AWD for less experienced drivers just because of how forgiving it is. The SRT4 is easier to go fast in, the engine is bulletproof, and I love the seats.

Well I have an 06 WRX and my friend has an 05 SRT-4. We love eachothers cars almost as much as we love our own cars. I love the punch that his car provides when you hit the gas while he loves the fact that I can take a turn unlike his would be able to. It just depends on what you like. The best thing you can do is test drive. Mod for mod you won't beat the SRT-4. Stock that car puts down roughly 30hp more than the 06+ WRX. Bolt on mods are also much more responsive compared to the WRX. For the WRX you will want to get some kind of EM like the Cobb AP. Stage 1 is good and stage 2 is even better. With the SRT the stage 1 kit is good; add a turbo back exhuast and the car screams.

As far as a straight line we did line up. Stock for stock I got him off the launch and by the end of 90mph he was just starting to pull past me. From a roll he had me by 2 cars by 90mph. Now my stage 1 with spt cbe vs. his car with motor mounts and short throw shifter I take him by 1.5 cars by 90 and he won't pull on me from a roll. Thing is, all he has to do is add one power mod and he'll take me.

Just drive them both and go from there.

my buddy has a srt for his daily and its slightly modded and its pretty stout and a clean car also..no quams..agreed i love the seats..although he has the same wheels as me but mine are bigger..lol

I've have a great deal of respect for the SRT-4s, but the awd and great exhaust note make me feel as though i'd never tire of my rex. I'd ditto what everyone else has been saying. Test drive both to see which suits your flavor best. I dont really think you can go wrong either way.

i say you get a wrx or if any srt-4, get a caliber. in my eyes everthing about the neon just throws off as a piece of junk. no offense to any one who has it, thats just my opinon.

Yeah! Like how the motor and tranny can handle 450WHP. Or how about the extremely bucketed STOCK seats. Maybe it's weight? Just over 2900LBS. I here ya man, I hear ya!!!

haha relax, i didnt say it WAS a piece of junk. all im saying is that id pick the wrx over it anyday. there was a time when i was looking at cars and i gave it a look but instead i got a wrx and couldnt be happier.

I hear ya man, I'm just kiddin lol. I had an SRT before this car and I loved the damn thing to death. But I truly felt that this was a better decision in the end.

Eh...it's nice to know that I'm safer but I stay at the speed limit whenever it rains. No need to go and do something stupid...like WOT in the rain....

Besides, any accidents I've been in were in dry weather at sub-30 mph speeds.

Drive as slowly as you want in the rain. As long as you're not blocking my path I don't care.

I hate to bring up practical things... but... when it comes to safety and dependability, the WRX stomps the SRT-4.

You can confirm this via research and personal observation. The SRT-4 is a tweaked out Neon. The WRX, a tweaked out Impreza. Try to pay attention to the 5-6 yr old Neons/SRT-4s and similar aged Impreza/WRXs that you see go by. Around here, the Neon are falling apart.... the Imprezas hold together pretty well. These personal observations are echoed clearly in publications like Consumer Reports.

SRT-4 may have more inexpensive straight line potential.
WRX wins from every other perspective.
