540i vs 05 STI

Hey.. my best friend just got a 1998 540i and all I hear from him is how much faster and better it is then my STI I am not planning to race him or anything im just wondering if any of you guys/girls came accross one or know how these match up. The STI is bone stock as well as the BMW.

i'd give you the edge. With a good launch i think you'll have him. At least in the 1/4 anyway.

Not sure what those 540i's run in the 1/4, but with all that weight i dont see them hitting low 13's.

According to this site a 6 speed 540i is a 14.0 sec car, and the STi is a 13.0 sec car, so the STi should win assuming the driver doesn't suck.

I don't think its much of a comparison, his is going to have more wear on the engine as well and probably not go as good as it did new. Not to mention it's really heavy.

i did some research for ya and a 1998 540i sport is listed at 5.5 0-60 and 14 flat in the qm
even a 2001 540i is listed with the exact same numbers. and thats the 6 speed, auto is even slower. you should own him!

I think you have to be half a tosser to buy a 540 beemer in the first place let alone think that it is the better car.
