Does that cover the new 335i owners as well? What about the new M3? BMW is in an entirely different class than Subaru. The 540i is an executive car while the wrx is a compact economy car. Personally I'd rather have the new M3 than a sti.

An "economy" car? Not quite. The base Impreza maybe, but not a WRX or STI.

The WRX and STI are basically "economy cars with upgrades". The chassis, basic exterior, and interior are still pretty much from the $17,000 base Impreza.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but IMO no matter how much you paid for an Impreza it doesn't have a certain "bank vault solidness" that the nice German sedans have.

I agree here, now the e46 vs sti argument was arguable, the e92 m3 vs sti, i just don't see a case for it.

Why is it that many BMW owners and/or fans feel they must justify the capabilities of the vehicle by denigrating other brands?

    +1
I <3 Subarus but there is just no good comparison to BMW.

Are you joking? If anything it's the complete opposite.
Even just judging by some of the comments in this thread alone, I would say it's the fanbois of other cars that seem to have the issue with BMW drivers.

Well it was the economy comment that made me sigh. Maybe it's because I'm older, but I grew up with Pintos, K cars, and Escort GT's, so an economy car definition is different for me. To me a 24k plus Wrx may be a sport compact car, but it not a Kia or a Neon. And an STI certainly isn't an econo-box.

No doubt German cars are nice. An M3 is sweet. MB makes some awesome cars. But I bought my Subie based on it's rally roots, not "economy". Certainly not to save money...

You'll spank him from a dead stop, but I'm curious what happens off a slow roll (10-20 mph) when you don't have the AWD launch advantage and he doesn't have to wait for a turbo?

nothing would happen at least for the bmw. It's a 14+ second car that doesnt even trap at 100mph. its a slow luxery car

It would be a lot closer from a roll then you think, but thats assuming the vehicle is a manual.
