$$$ on the line, STi vs M5

Need to know if a 02 M5 will kill my 04 STi. There is money on the line so i want to be sure 100% before i agree. The M5 is RWD, 4 door, 4.9L 396hp. My STi is stock. Any help would be great.

right off the bat he's killing you with the hp and torque.

is the m5 manual or automatic?

how good of a driver are you?

M5's only come in Manual 6spd (for that generation).

I wouldn't put money on this. They are faster in the 1/4mile and he will rip you apart from a roll or anything over 100mph.

Am I the only one here who's actually driven an M5? The M5 weighs nearly 1,000lbs more, has a loose clutch and shifter, and is geared for absurd top-end.
Race him from a dig, launch your car from 4k, keep it under 100.

PS: Street racing is stupid.

The odds are on the M5, should run low 13's stock, but if you drive it better, get a good launch and hit your shifts you'll have a chance.

You should be racing for respect, not money. In school zones, preferably.

As a backup, you should overnight a Tactrix cable and flash your car to stage 1. I'll even send you the map. An extra 1.5lbs of boost could make or break that race.

here's a quote from C&D from an 03 M5 comparison test against some other european rivals.

The Bimmer was third to 60 mph at 4.9 seconds and third in the quarter-mile, 13.4 seconds at 108 mph.

Your best bet, is to quickly order tbe, and get tuned asap lol

I've driven both of these cars pretty extensively because my final two cars I was deciding between when I bought my STi was these two. In the end, they are so close in speed up to 100 mph that a race comes down entirely to the driver. But over 100, the M5 will kill the STi. The STi handles a tiny bit better because it's so much lighter and also handles under acceleration and braking better for the same reason.

You're ignoring the fact that the M5 weighs over 1000 lbs more than the STi, so the power differences don't really mean much. The HP/lb for both cars is pretty similar though the STi actually has a slight edge. This is negated somewhat by the turbo engine since the M5 has more power available at lower RPMs.

The difference in trap speeds means that once the M5 hits 2nd gear he's making up any ground you gained from the launch. The longer the race goes, the more certain he is to pass you. Make no mistake, he will pass you!

It's a night and day difference to go from ~ 102 mph traps to ~ 110 mph traps. On my current car I'm skipping directly from about 105 to about 120 mph traps
