my 05 wrx is about as fast as a stock sti if not a tad faster the reason the m5 hit low 13's is because it had a professional driver and he probably had a good launch. the car is heavy he's probably @ 315 or 320 hp at the wheels

All 3 of your above statements are not true:
1. A stock STi is faster than your car based on the time in your sig (TRACK: 1/4 MILE 13.66 102.7 MPH).
2. I know plenty of regular people that can run low 13s in their stock M5. You don't need to be a professional driver to do it.
3. A stock M5 has about 15% drivetrain loss so that puts the power at 394 HP * 85% = 335 HP

i was talking about the sti running low to mid 13's with a professional driver because it was true. so wat ur sayn is that car and drivers magazines pro test driver, is wrong, i never said that a regular driver couldnt beat a pro dirvers time so i dont know where you got that from... but yes i would say that a pro drag/ driver would have a better time due to the experiance of dragging all types of car..p.s. get off the high horse... wat did i mention that was not true?

I sometimes regret that I got the STi instead of the M5 when I had the choice between the two. But then I remember the 50 HP and 85 TQ I added for under $1000, the zero problems I've had in the 18k miles I've had the car (just rolled over 50k), and the zero problems I'm likely to have for the next 50k. But then I wish I had the M5.

I hear and understand what you're saying...the same ideas come to mind when considering a 911. Weasel and I were PM'ing back and forth about this just the other day.

My true desire is to own a german sportscar or sedan..but my leftbrain continuously points me to the Japanese alternative due to the reliability/cost of ownership factor. Sooner or later I'll try something German; I just keep chickening out.

I have this debate in my head, too. It would be nice if there were more Japanese super-sedans. Infiniti needs to put their new V8 in the G sedan with a 6-speed manual. It would make me not want a German equivalent as much. I'm spoiled by Subaru reliability and I think I'd be upset if my German beauty needed constant dealership attention.

Meh, I'm in it for the "fun factor", not street racing thrills or bragging rights. My plan is to test drive 996's, E46 M3's, E39 M5's, and STI's til I find the car that speaks to me in terms of "fun to drive".

Having said that, the 335 is not a slow car. I suspect that a chipped 335 will wipe the floor with my car any day of the week at the dragstrip or at a road course.

Okay, I'll let this thread wander back on topic...
