This is a discussion on WRX vs. WRX STi within the Comparison: WRX vs World forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; what is it about an sti that makes it faster and more powerful than a plain wrx. im just not ...
what is it about an sti that makes it faster and more powerful than a plain wrx. im just not sure and am curious. Thanks
bigger injectors for one, and on the 05s and below the wrx's only have a 2.0 liter engine the sti's have 2.5, and lots of other stuff
like first poster said before 06, wrx was a 2.0L
Wrx has a smaller turbo, different block, intercooler, exhaust, tune etc.
STi also has a much better suspension, 6spd m/t and of course the brembos.
IMO if you can do it spend the extra on the sti, its more than worth it
so about how much would it cost to bring a stock wrx up to sti standards in terms of the engine im just curious if it would be cheaper to buy a wrx over an sti and beef the engine up
if you can afford it, go for the sti, or you'll be doing more than "beefing up the engine"... the wrx tranny can only hold X amount of power. you'll more than likely have to upgrade that to an STi one anyway

ok that was my big question cause im going cobb on the suspension so eliminates getting an sti for that reason but if the engine is that different than it makes sense to spend the extra dime, thanks
first off, springs dont do much. sways yes that will help but to get a wrx to really hunker down you would want some koni yellows and springs along with them or tokico dspecs or something
sti is a much better platform and yes the tranny and brembos alone are worth the extra it costs to get an sti let alone the ej25,vf39,tmic,interior,suspension,exterior etc etc
get the sti

if u buy a used wrx, u could definately save money getting it to sti specs over a brand new sti.
Or u could just buy a used sti and put more stuff in it and be faster than the wrx either way![]()
