This actually happened Mothers Day weekend but what the hey...
Driving down to see my mum on a beautiful Sunday and passed a nice looking Mazdaspeed3. He came back up next to me and I could see he had some nice mods (lots of graphics on the quarter panel).
As luck would have it, we caught a light, but he tried to turn off beforehand. I threw up my hand, as is to say "come on...". He relented, and we lined up for an agreed upon mini-run up to 45mph. Light changed and he lost traction. I had him until, I actually tried to drive. Long story short, I bogged 1st gear.
By the time I got my act together he was off. 2nd was sweet for me, but it was over and I admitted defeat.
Moral: I suck

Damn, always someone faster but with 320whp they're few and far between. Thank you for agreeing to shut down at 45mph, that shows more responsibility than 99% of street kill posts.
OUCH!!!! i wonder how much boost he was running. do the mazdas have the same size turbo as the wrx?

anywho. its a good thing the mazdaslow3 driver didn't torque steer into a group of children.
The torque steer really wasn't that bad when I drove one though. My maxima was FAR FAR worse.
