2004 WRX vs 1998 Camaro Z28

Well .. I raced my friend's Z28 tonight. The outcome was crappy as anything as I thought I would of done alot better. Please tell me why he destroyed me as i like break downs. I understand I really need to learn how to launch as I think thats my biggest issue.

First Race: From a Dig, I missed Second

Second Race: From a Dig, I missed Second

Third Race: From a Dig, Took him off the line beautifully, got into second and still had a car on him. Third gear he just WALKED past me.

40MPH Roll: I would pull on him by a car, then he would WALK past me. Again and Again and Again

Setups:

2004 Subaru WRX
SPT Short Ram Intake
Invidia Up-Pipe
Invidia Down-Pipe
Invidia G200 Exhaust
Cobb Light Main Pulley
STI Intercooler
Perrin Hose Kit
Cobb Stage 2 Accessport running 93 <-- I am thinking of having the car ProTuned before going as I dont believe my car is running at it's full potiental with this Stage 2 as I have additional Modifications.

vs.

1998 Camaro Z28
Intake
Exhaust (No Headers)
Automatic

LS1 Z28 (even automatic) runs mid 13's stock. With those mods he's a low 13sec car and that auto leaves no room for driver error. Him passing you by the end of 3rd is exactly how I would have predicted it.
LS1's shouldn't be thought of lightly.

It's funny how people here will dismiss Camaros as if they're some sort of joke. Wonderful potential in those LS1 cars, even with minor mods. I considered buying one a few years back.

I miss driving an automatic car in this situation lol. Yet again I think driving stick is alot of fun. Thanks for the info.

OH I knew the Z28's had some "Balls" to them, I was not doubting that. I guess I thought that from 40 MPH the turbo would do some more justice then it did. Regardless thank you for the info as I am still learning.

another QFT. Same thing with the 5.0 Mustangs, minor mods with sticky tires and those cars are in the 12's. People forget how easy it is to make fair power with a v-8.

225whp doesn't do much justice against 300whp

You should definately get a pro-tune. The amount of unrealized power I had was a HUGE eye opener. I got 50whp out of mine. That makes a huge difference.

He also is putting down about 300 ft lbs of torque that gets him outta the hole
LS1s can be monsters too, leave it up to GM to have two identical cars off the production line with one motor making 20rwhp more....

Um....the Td04 does have some "insta spool" but it's not going to let you run anything down on the top end. It's to small.

The LS1's are nasty motors...the LS anything is a nasty motor.

Yeah I am looking to get a Protune done now and then down the road a year or two do a 18g turbo swap, Injectors, Fuel Pump and BOV. With Another Protune. What do you think my numbers will look like then? And would the race be alittle closer?

I wouldnt mind an automatic, there's nothing like blowing past someone trying to race you while you're eating a hamburger or drinking something. I got a chance to ride in a CU sports car club member's camaro with ported throttle body and full exhuast and it just walked away from another member's evo. They gain power easily.
