I didn't realize stage II took a few seconds off the STI's 1/4 mile time?

Stock STI (C&D): 0-60 4.9sec 1/4 mile 13.4 @ 102mph
Stock 335i (C&D): 0-60 4.9sec 1/4 mile 13.6 @ 105mph

I think the ET on the 335i gets inflated a bit because third gear tops out at 104mph apparently...

So it looks like, based on trap speeds, the stock 335i should pull on a stock STI, but I really don't know how much faster stage II makes the STI - I thought it was quite a bit?

I know guys are flashing the 335 with intakes and DP and getting some big gains though, many say that just a flashed 335 will toast an E46 M3 (in a straight line at least)

Paper racing through magazines is just a rough estimate anyway. Usually they don't launch correctly or near hard at all.

I know I ran a 13.1 @ 104mph when my STI was stock. There have been those around here who have hit 12.9 on a stock STI.

And as we've been over a few times, a 335i will pull on an STI anything past a quarter mile. If you go back and read the post where I dragged one, I beat the guy by .3 seconds, but he trapped 4-5 mph faster than me, meaning he was gaining on me. Had it been a half mile drag, he would have won.

As for stage 2 numbers, it increases power significantly on an STI. If I ran the same 335 and was Stage 2...I still would have been pulling on him, but once I hit 5th gear (I trap in 4th), I would then begin to start slowing on the top end, and the 335 would probably begin to pull again. However with stage 2, it would take a bit longer for the 335 to catch up.

For the record, I ran 12.7 @ 107mph at Stage 2.

I was reading up on the 335 engine and each turbo only pushes 9psi from the factory. You can certainly improve upon that but the cylinders run a 10.1+:1 compression ratio...so you can't push too much more out of the turbos, without risking blowing the engine. The block is completely Aluminum, so its strong, but obviously not invincible. But adding some DP's and tuning certainly will make tremendous power in these, even if it is only a minimum increase in boost

you would not be the first guy to blow up a brand new 335 messing with the turbos.

Id take a 2008 STI any day to tell the truth. there are lots of headaches involved in BMW ownership, namely the fact that they require frequent trips to the dealership to fix electronic AND mechanical Bull****.

At the end of the day you (the OP) just have to drive the two cars and see what you like better. Obviously, you asked this question on the WRX board, and most people say get the STI... if you went over to a BMW forum you'd get the exact opposite. Someone came into M3forum yesterday and asked if he should sell his Stg II+ '07 STI and get a 2004 M3 coupe, just about everyone said "yea, obviously!". I have an '04 M3, but I recommended he keep his car, btw.

So yea, just test it out and let us know which way you go!
