First encounter with a Mazdaspeed3.

So I was going up this really long, empty, wide, slightly uphill street that goes all the way up to my community (Tampa for you Socal people) at ~40 in 3rd gear (kinda slowly because I had just come out of a right turn) when I noticed somebody tailgating me. He then backed off, changed lanes, and tried to do a fly-by, and I just hit the gas in 3rd and waited for it to spool. He caught up for a while, but once I spooled I pulled on him pretty hard.

No. Maybe I worded it kind of oddly, but this is what happened:
I sped up a little after I turned, to maybe around 50, and since he backed off a little too he was a fair distance behind me. At THIS point he tried to fly by me. I guess I did just stomp on the gas, but he was trying.

Since it was nighttime, I couldn't tell at first; then he ended up going into the same gate as I use in my community, and I let him pass by me. I saw the mazdaspeed3 badge on his trunk.

ok i work for mazda... that was not a MS3 if he was actually going.

but it sounds like someone went to pass you and you became a hardass and then they realized it and were like whatever and let you do your thing

No, this dude TRIED until atleast ~80 mph. I don't think you need to floor it to that kinda speed to pass someone going 50.
