Well you are looking at 170hp 3300lbs vs 130hp 2400lbs I am surprised the Passat pulled at all. If they were both of simular age the neon might have won.

Well my buddy rented a 1.8T passat and before he returned it we wanted to see how his bone stock 1997 neon 5 speed would do against the auto passat. We did two runs first run from a dig he dumped his clutch to high and spun the tires and the passat walked away. The next race from a dig it was dead even from 0-60mph then the passat started to creep very slowly. Wow was that passat a dog, I was driving the passat and i was shocked how the neon was dead even with it until 60mph. I even brake boosted the passat off the line.
1.8T passat 0-60 dead even with 1997 neon (133hp) 5 speed bone stock.
