    WS6 vs 06 WRX stg 2

I raced a Trans Am ws6 today from a 20mph roll and a 60mph roll, on an open stretch of empty highway.

The first run (20mph), I jumped him...but I continued to pull on him through the end of 2nd gear (66 mph). I jumped out with my nose in front, and pulled to about 1 full car length by the end of 2nd gear. Then I let off for a more even match.
The second run from 60mph, he jumped me, and barely pulled on me through 3rd, and then it was even through part of 4th (of course he maintained his lead) I let off at around 110.

Anyway, as we slowed and checked each others rides out...I noticed a full roll cage, and his tags said "1FAST TA". His exhaust note was that of a slightly worked v8...It sounded as if he were running a mild cam, and the sound was very loud as if cats had been gutted and possible headers installed. I also noticed the sweet smell of Cam 2 110 octane leaded fuel. He was coming from the general vicinity of the local 1/8th mile track, and was wearing a sponsors racing uniform.

I think he was embarassed because he dipped off real quick and avoided pulling over so I could see what he had done.

Come to find out...this guy apparently has a reputation around town as being a fast, fast car. He is supposed to be running mid 12's on street tires with all of the bolt ons. And I am certain I would have taken him from a dig.

His car sounded as if it were running good, he was a good driver as his shifts were on point, and very quick. When we slowed looking at each others cars he looked at me as if I had just taken advantage of his mother. Just a note, I was granny shifting because I don't want to blow my tranny.

The funny thing is, I had a freshly full tank of gas (I was actually pulling out from filling up when he beefed with me), and I had my wife with me and a trunk load of my business stuff.
I am certain that If I didn't have the stuff, or my wife, I would have been pulling on him (he was by himself).

I came home, and did a google of factory ws6 stats and found the car to run mid 13's from the factory. This guy had obviously done some modifications, but I wasn't able to find out what. I just know it was loud, and fast.

I need to run my car in the quarter mile...I know I can break into the 12's on a stage 2 06.
If you don't believe me....I invite you to come meet me for a run, I bet I would suprise you, just as I did him. otherwise, you will have to wait until I get a granny shifting quarter mile time slip to post up.

I don't think this guy new how to drive, it should have walked you in 4th.

I've raced a 02 SS in 03 stage 2 WRX and hung even twice from a roll to 90mph and to 100mph.

    Good kill.

Not sure if that was an LT1 or LS1 WS6.

If thatwas an LS1 and had a cam and exhaust, I would venture to say he probably had an after market air induction system as well (typically, this is a very first mod), if so, then his car should easily trap 110+ mph. As a comparison, my old bone stock M6 2000 Camaro SS trapped 107 mph.

Yes, he knows how to drive. He is a local "legend" and he owns the trans am "to beat" around town.

I could hear his shifts. They were no throttle lift, quick shifts that would blow the mind of most of the people on this site (or blow their transmissions if they tried to shift that fast).

I know how to drive, and I know when someone else knows how to drive.....this guy knows.

I suspect I have well over 300 hp at the crank, and probably closer to 350-360lbs/ft at the crank. The longer gears in the 06 helped since I was always at 1 shift less than him. Plus each of my shifts put me right into the fat torque curve. Like when I shifted into 4th, he stopped pulling on me....that is because I have gobs of torque at 5krpms.

I would put up $1000 that I would smoke a stock sti from a dig, or a roll on. Any takers?

I have owned modified tt supras, and FD rx7's in the 500hp range. I know what it feels like to run a fast car. And the wrx I have now is no exception. I could guarantee high 12's. But I really think I am hitting mid 12's with the stage 2 setup. I was hitting mid 12's with my rx7 with the stock twins, and it didn't even feel this fast to 100mph (past 100...different story). I had my supra running in the 11's, and it felt maybe as fast to 60, which was clocked at 3.6 seconds on more than one occasion.

I think I have one of those so called "factory animals" or either the 06's are WAY underrated.

Before I talk anymore smack, I am going to run the car in the local 1/8th track and see what she does. I bet I will be hitting 85+mph with a low 8's in the 1/8th. But we shall see

I think there's a good chance that you simply have the fastest car on the entire planet.

wow.... where to start, where to start.....

    1) A stage2 wrx is not going to be beating a header, gutted exhaust, intake, cam, on 110octane WS6 in ANYTHING other maybe a 0-40 run. Hell, a VF34 wrx would get walked at those speeds by a WS6 with such mods.

    2) A stage2 STI could NOT beat a WS6 with those mods from those speeds.

    3) I think you grossly overestimated the mods this guy has, or you came across the worst driver known on planet earth.

    4) If the car in your town that is a "legend" and is "the car to beat" and it just got beat my a stage2 wrx then your town sucks.

Look, I am not trying to sound like a 16 year old with a new escort here. I am simply stating observations.

I am not new to the modified car scene, I am going on 26, and have owned fast cars since I was 17, starting with an FC3s Rx7. So you are looking at almost 9 years of experience. Sure there are a bunch of people with more experience than me, but I have a pretty good track record of cars, and I am familiar with racing them.

I have owned or own the following:
    83 Audi UR quattro coupe(own)
    86 Mazda Rx7 (broke it)
    86 Mazda Rx7 (sold it)
    89 Mustang 5.slow (don't ask why)
93 Single Turbo Rx7 (broke it, then sold it)
    97 BPU+++ Supra (sold)
    01 Honda S2000 (sold)
    06 WRX (own)

And I am sure I am leaving a few out.

Don't hate the 06's because we are beautiful....and faster.

    1) Yes I did through 2nd gear.

    2) Have you tried?

    3) Very Possible...as I CLEARLY stated, I didn't get to see his mods.

    4) I also clearly stated he was the "trans am to beat" and refered to him as legendary for comedic enhancement

Also, why is it so hard to believe??? there are STi's running in the high 12's from the factory, and the best Info I could find on a WS6 was 13.5 from the factory. And without a turbo, the times couldn't drop that drastically. You are acting like he is running 11's or something.

Again I say, I will challenge anyone to a run in central VA if they don't believe me. I don't intend to BS my fellow wrx owners. I just am making observations.

EDIT: Also I never said I beat the guy. He beat me fair and square, however, I pulled on him through second gear. Don't really care if you believe me. My wife was there and saw it too. SO I am not crazy.

Why does everyone on the forums slam people for making observations? I was stating factual information that happened to me today, and as usual on the boards I get slammed. Do you guys not want to know how fast someone elses car is? Is it jealousy? Whatever it is, it is very annoying. But as I said before, I will be waiting for the first guy to challenge me and my claims. If I am wrong, I will be the first to post it. If I am right, I will smash it in your face just like you smash your assumptions in mine.

    and the 06 saga continues...

my real question is, why did you sell your 97 Supra? although i don't doubt your claim, i also believe that you were up against a mediocre driver. and with the 06's weighing in almost 200+ more than the previous gen wrx's, i think you need about 300+whp to kill a ws6 the way you did (assuming equal driver skill). the 06's might very well be very underrrated, and i'm curious to see how much horsepower the 06's can hold on stock internals.

i do envy the torquiness of the new 2.5l, though, but i'm part of the bugeye mafia for life

Had to sell the supra because of insurance. It was costing me over 600 per month with the possiblilty of being dropped with the next speeding ticket. It was either the supra or a house. Of course that was back when I had speeding/eluding/wreckless charges on my driving record.

As far as "killing" him....don't know where you got that, I said he beat me. I just said I was hanging with him in 4th before I let off at 110. The 20mph roll I admitted that I jumped him. So I don't count that as a win for myself.

    1) you are talking 1/4mile. In the 1/4mile yes it is true that M6 WS6 only runs mid-low 13's, but with the mods you mentioned it is more like very low 12's.

    2) All your runs were from a roll and did not include an AWD launch. A stageII wrx traps between 99-102mph and a stageII STi traps about 108/109mph where as a stock WS6 will trap 106/107mph and with the mods you listed we are talking more in the realm of 112/113mph which is nearly 10mph higher than your stageII wrx is capable of.

If was a stock WS6 it would believable but still not probable (stock turbo wrx's do not pull on 6spd LS1's from roll) and to add in the mods you stated it just ridiculous.

I am not going to sit here in argue semantics and magazine times with you all night. The fact remains that if you really did beat this guy then either he has not NEARLY not even CLOSE to the mods you stated, or he is the single handed worst driver on earth.
