I think the other Merkur was called the Scorpio and was a total failure.Originally Posted by silvewrxMerkur xr4ti was sold 87-90 in the us through mercury dealers. It's a european escort RS with the 2.3 instead of the cossie 2.0. It's the same as the SVO motors, and turbocoupes. they're trash, and rustbuckets, but a cheap car to beat on. Here in CT there are plenty around. They are pretty slow stock, 0-60 in ~7.8, quarter in high 15s low 16s iirc. Parts are abundant, but they break a lot. Merkur had one other model i forget what, it was a sedan i think. Anyway if you want rwd i hear ya, but you're better of with a camaro, 5.0, silvia etc. The escort gt with the 1.8 h.o. is a civic killer but fwd. Late model toyota cressida's had 2.8 I6s, and rwd up to like '89. Maxima's are rwd up to 88, having 3.0s after 84. Most of the Merkurs are beat now, but if you wanted to put in the effort they aren't desirable, and thus very cheap.
