It's the same as the SVO motors, and turbocoupes. they're trash, and rustbuckets, but a cheap car to beat on. Here in CT there are plenty around. They are pretty slow stock, 0-60 in ~7.8, quarter in high 15s low 16s iirc. Parts are abundant, but they break a lot. Merkur had one other model i forget what, it was a sedan i think. Anyway if you want rwd i hear ya, but you're better of with a camaro, 5.0, silvia etc. The escort gt with the 1.8 h.o. is a civic killer but fwd. Late model toyota cressida's had 2.8 I6s, and rwd up to like '89. Maxima's are rwd up to 88, having 3.0s after 84. Most of the Merkurs are beat now, but if you wanted to put in the effort they aren't desirable, and thus very cheap.
I think the other Merkur was called the Scorpio and was a total failure.

Correct. It had the 2.9 Ford V6 timebomb also found in the Bronco II.

I'm surprised that the Miata hasn't been mentioned. Used Miata's tend to be pretty inexpensive. There are supercharger and turbocharger kits as well as handling packages for it as well.

Edit: As Griswold said, the original post said, "No Miata's".

In his original thread he said "No Miatas". You're right though. The BP series motors were designed to be a turbo motor in the 323. Oil squiters in the pistons etc. You can really make some nice power out of them.

alittle mods then gut it, rear suspention, big rubber and supercharge or NO2 her!

A little rare, maybe - but I've always been a fan of the early 90s Celica All-Tracs.

A co-worker had one of those. That motor was sweet, and it really made that Taurus move.
