I will definetly be doing some research on that one.
It's all about rally racing, nothing more.
On second thought maybe its all about Rally Racing and Auto-X
'06 Steel Gray WRX (Stock)
Im not sure if the specs were the same as the Turbo Coupe, but im pretty sure the 2.3 turbo in the T-bird put out 190hp and 210tq.Originally Posted by TBomb

Merkur xr4ti was sold 87-90 in the us through mercury dealers. It's a european escort RS with the 2.3 instead of the cossie 2.0. It's the same as the SVO motors, and turbocoupes. they're trash, and rustbuckets, but a cheap car to beat on. Here in CT there are plenty around. They are pretty slow stock, 0-60 in ~7.8, quarter in high 15s low 16s iirc. Parts are abundant, but they break a lot. Merkur had one other model i forget what, it was a sedan i think. Anyway if you want rwd i hear ya, but you're better of with a camaro, 5.0, silvia etc. The escort gt with the 1.8 h.o. is a civic killer but fwd. Late model toyota cressida's had 2.8 I6s, and rwd up to like '89. Maxima's are rwd up to 88, having 3.0s after 84. Most of the Merkurs are beat now, but if you wanted to put in the effort they aren't desirable, and thus very cheap.

If you're not shifting, you're just riding.
I totalled my WRX
K20 hatch....go cart handling. great acceleration and top end...rsx type s motor or even a basic rsx motor
i would look into a dsm for sure. they can put down some serious hp. and since its just gonna be a project car and not a daily driver you dont have to worry too much about the reliability aspect. alot of my friends drive them and they will def. give u what your looking for.
Depends on what you want.
If you want a project car that is just balls out fast (dont care about looks / handling / reliability) then you'll probably want anything with a 4G63 thrown in there.
but I think an overall great project car would be a 1991+ MR2 Turbo...
1) Couple engines mods (bigger turbo or what not) / engine swap.
2) Strip it out and make it light as hell (yup, even lightER)
3) Drop it an inch or two (omg makes it looks amazing)
4) Enjoy![]()

It wont be anywhere as fast as the DSMs, but I think it'd probably overall be a lot more fun.. just be careful with that RWD Midengined car...(spinouts!)
If I were to do a MR2 project car in the future, which I might... id be somehting like this.

Dunno about that yellow, but ya... that car is friggin FIRE.

they call STi's STDs because everyone is getting them.
Here's my buddies MR2 I know it looks a little beat, but it's his race car, I'm not sure if he even uses it on the road anymore, but it is streetlegal.
If you check out the vids at the bottom, he some of him passing a couple Porsche GT3s at Watkins Glen and Limerock, and even his video of his ECTA G/BFSS Record standing mile run of 152mph! If I ever had the money, this would definatley be the project car i would LOVE to build.
Stock or something close to it.....
Wow thats awesome, and for only 15K too.. Im assuming he does all the labor .. great site, I love the work he has done to the car...Originally Posted by soon2BWRXd

oh ya and I guess RX-7s with LS1 swaps are the new cool thing to do. tons of power, realiable (unlike the rx-7 engine which likes to go boom), and rx-7 is PURE SEX on wheeeeeeeeels.

he does some of his own labor, think he installed the suspension and brakes(I helped with the brakes day before he went to watkins glen last year. but the engine he had done for him, wasn't cheap, but it is a badass car.Originally Posted by amukaoen

95+ Probe GT. Great handling, great looking car. Stock 165hp V6 that can be modded like crazy (I had a 95 that I loved until it died). I really miss that car....
05 WRX wagon
Fox body 'stang.
you can get them for cheep and the aftermarket is insane, (just look at the sheer volume of mags for *just* mustangs)... plus if are already driving a small-displacement turboed awd vehicle, the "oposite" car would be the large displacement NA rwd... a wholy different experience...
