they call STi's STDs because everyone is getting them.
Although good cars, they are not the handling dream you would think. You should be able to hang with him in some turns in your car once you get more familiar with the roads, and maybe go to racing school. I'm not saying that to slam you, but to pull you up saying that your car really can handle. Usually from what I've seen celica's beat them regularly auto-x. I know my car beats them on the road course. Their acceleration is nice for what it is, but it's still only a 13 second car.

as a former elise owner, I have to say that I loved the car. the acceleration is amazing, and it handles quite well. the only problems with it are that it's uncomfortable to ride in for long trips, and that there's no storage room whatsoever (if that's important to you). it's a car that you'd want to have a good time in, but it's very much more of a toy than anything else. also, if you're bigger/taller than I am (6'0" 190lbs), you're gonna have a hard time getting in/out/fitting in the car, especially with the roof on.

yeah, the elise is freaking sick around the turns. Basically a $45k go-kart that will outhandle any other factory production automobile.

Yeah I've seen two of them in my life, one just passing by and the other at KTR, ripping down their straight-away driveway. They sound so sick.
luxury is 1.00 BAR+ of boost and the inability for your passenger to touch the dashboard
My dream garage is an Elise for the summer, an STI for the winter and a M3 for the track.

Yeah I could see how the Elise would be more "fun" its a smaller lighter car. It seems like more of a car you'd want to drive alot. I mean Ferrari's are the ultimate driver car but it seems like so many people just keep them as museum pieces.
