    Audi S4?

Ok I know a guy with a 2005 S4 that he claims puts out 420 hp at the crank (after mods). He isn't saying what mods he's done but the exhaust is stock sounding.

Are these cars really that fast and does anyone have any stories of running against one? Stock it looks like 0-60 is 5.3. Any chance I could beat him with my stock 06 wrx?

Also what kind of mods would he have to do to get 420 hp? The car has the 4.2 V8 btw.

I raced an '04 S4 from 0-110 and put 6 cars on him when I was Cobb Stage 2. I had a great launch and I think he underestimated the the Wrx Wagon he saw. After the race he said he had no chance of catching up to me. He also claimed 420hp. But at stock, you should lose.

just keep the clock under 100 mph and you'll stand a chance. top end is where youll see that v8 open up. and even up to there, it should be close but id give it to whoever launched better. then updards of a hundred mph, he will just keep on putting more and mroe cars inbetween you and him.

So, lemme get this straight. You're saying a stock wrx, with 227hp, should run close with a 420hp S4 to 100mph? You're outta your mind, provided it really is a 420hp car.

While I agree with you that he's not going to beat a 420chp car (even though it is very heavy) the new 06 WRX puts out more then 227hp and puts out crazy azz tq.

If he isn't boast about his HP you don't stand a chance even from the dig. I don't know much about the new V8 version but the over V6 Bi-turbo can put down some insane numbers but costs a ton to do it.

Having once owned a 2000 S4, i was frequent on one of the audi forums, and last i checked there wasnt a performance mod that could possibly make to v8 s4 400+ hp. Unless he is supercharged its unlikley he has those kind of numbers. Ill double check when i get a chance.

I doubt the guy I raced had 420hp either, but that's what he claimed. In the end, I still drove the Subie home, and he got to drive the S4, so maybe I did lose. S4's are nice looking cars.

I just sold my '05 S4 and have been a long time Audi member of audiworld and can tell you no way he's making 420 (especially w/out an exhaust). If the guy has gone the whole 9 yards w/ an exhaust, intake, and chip...he'd be lucky to be at 270-280'ish at the wheels (AWD of course). Most people seem to rely on .28 conversion so he'd be under 360 at the crank. There's been talk for the last year that a SC was coming which was going to be 400-420 @ the crank...but it was also expected to be some major coin.

IMO, if you're stock...from a dead stop it'll come down to the launch, but he should have a slight edge if he did do some mods and if his car is broken in. Mine didn't really open up till it had about 14k miles on it...and some people have dynoed them new and then after they were in the teens mileage wise and have proven that a 30-40 whp pickup is pretty common (hence why the magazines sometimes have high numbers for low mileage v8 S4s). If on a roll you'll need some mods whether he's stock or not.

The B6 S4 aka V8 model, comes with 340 hp from the factory.
    Fullback exhaust +20-25
    Chip +15-20
    Intake +10-15
So a properly tuned S4 can put out around 400 hp at the crank.
Most S4 owners are looking into weight reduction, since thats about all you can do to make it faster. The other option is a supercharger, with claims of 450-500 hp. But pricing is not competetive on them, so it would be very rare to see one with it.

As an S4 owner (and previous WRX) I can say that on highway speeds, it is definately faster than a stock WRX. No contest.
I always wanted to try my luck against a WRX, but the opportunity never seems to be there.

I saw and got to play with one not too long ago. They are beautiful...for sure. Fast...nope. I guess they are just too heavy. I put a few lenght on him from around 30 MPH coming out of a service on ramp. By 4th gear, I had about 3 or so lengths on him, and no sign of it getting any better for him.

BTW...subiesport just did a compo on the S4 wagon against a stock and modified LGT. The modded LGT put 290 to the wheels and it stomped all over the S4 (except in the sexiness department...although it ain't a bad looker either).

My vote....a stage 2 WRX should be able to take it from a launch.

    291WHP and 298ftlbs on 91 octane

Normally a N/A car will not gain 45-60hp from an intake/exhaust/chip. 20-30hp is normally what you will see.

So, best case scenario for this individual is 41 hp gain at the wheels. Thats in line with 45+ hp gain at the crank, isnt it?
