'99 c5 vette vs. '01 z06

The Setup:
'99 vette: c5 body, manual, mods: Vram air intake, LS6 intake manifold, my bf's driving, track time: 12.8@112 on street tires in the 1/4

'01 vette: z06, manual, mods: possibly a suspension upgrade, but nothing else noticeable

The Story:
So we were cruisin' back to my place in my bf's vette. We pull up behind a 2001 z06. We press on the vette a little bit to see if it wants to play. Well the z06 guns it to the next light. It's red and we pull up in the left lane, they're in the right lane. It's a younger guy with a female passenger. With a quick heads up, the race is on.

The light turns green. My bf guns it as both vettes take off. We have an early lead, and my bf backs off a little. After less then an 1/8 mile, in a 0-75mph run we have pulled 2-3 car lengths on the z06. The other racer gives a thumbs up as he takes the next exit ramp.

Oh yeah, z06's are hella fast stock, CraZY hella fast with the smallest of mods!
So it was a great kill for my bf!

Yeh in 02, they gained the 20whp I believe.
Its awesome your b.f. has a vette, but my dads z06 (recently sold) woulda gave him a better run.

yeah. My cousin has a C5 with intake, ls6 intake manifold, full exhaust, headers, cams, etc.... Even though he is not boosting that car is freaking MEAN and has some rather amazing pull. As much as I am an import type of guy, there is just something about raw V8 power and insta-torque.

No, he sold his z06 and 88 vette. He grew out of the vette phase (or maybe his mid life crisis). He has a 350Z now and when he retires hes prolly gonna pick up an elise.

It was certainly a fun kill for me and even better with my girlfriend in the car ... I'm about dead even with the 405hp z06's which is pretty amazing for the few mods I have. I lucked out because the v-ram cold-air on my car dropped it 0.4 seconds in the 1/8th. I'm not the only vette that had those results. That mod is amazing to drop that on a N/A car. I'm planning on opening up the exhaust soon, and getting a cam :-P Then I should be in the 11's.... and chasing the 06 z06's

Cams help out a lot. Ive seen some c5's with cams pull some nice numbers off, with just some other simple bolt ons.
