Yea they can be a lot of fun, before I got my STi I had a 00' civic Si that had a B18C1 turbo, sweet car IMO. If it didnt get stolen I'd probably still have it. I've considered selling my 240 as my p.o.s. beater car and getting a hatch instead.
Yeah, there a bunch of civics at my high school and around town. But they all seem to be just the typical i/h/e setup. IMO I'd rather have an EK, especially considering how cheap they are and the vast availability of aftermarket parts.
racing from a roll is gay as hell. they dont race from a roll at the dragstrip do they? its just what frontwheel drive cars "made up" to try to make it seem like there car is even with a car that is faster. tell them to shut up. and put there hazards on and " shut down" :rotfl:
Man I don't know where you guys live but in NEPA I haven't found one single Civic worth the gas.. Ever single one of them are riced out junk.
I had a red hatchback pull up next to me once and looked like crap so I thought just maybe I found one of these turboed Civics worth racing.. Holy crap this guy couldn't even get out of his own way..
The kid across the street has a 4dr with unpainted body kit.. I hear him burning out all the time. Once we got to race and I shut down before third cause the race was so far over by then. He claimed he beat a Stang GT..
Sorry I don't like the Civics many cause they waste my gas.. I'd love to find a turbo one but I don't think they are in my area.. :thumbdown
racing from a roll is by far the best ........sucks having an STI though
and my buddy has a SOHC turbo hatch about 190whp and he pulls me in every gear even from a first gear roll.....the thing sounds sick as hell almost all turbo noise.......dont ever rag on civics (well done civics ) cause they are few and far between....yes for the most part they are ugly as hell ricers but a civic done right is Fing SWEET.......and i used to hate civics, untill i meet a few dude with turbo civics....my sti is stock mind you
you guys should seriously ride in a turbo civic its insane
You've got an awd car that's a turd on the top end, and you're out looking for races from a roll?
When you stop messing with stock civic ex's you're going to get your ass handed to you.
Edit: oops I just realized you have a sti now, it all makes sense. with the 6MT you actually have to be a good driver to want to go from a dig. :rotfl:
Racing from a roll is like masturbation. Sure it's fun, but in the end it's not the real thing.

hhahahaha
no im pretty good from a dig......but i would say i never ever run into cars at a light and i do on the highway and such.....and thats where the fun happens

you could always do what most racers do and take them someplace for a real one.secluded. little to no people. long open straight stretch. rare chance of 5 0 .kinda how i do about half the cars i race. the others i just expect to take from a roll so its just shutdown fun.....

dude just cause we can launch better doesnt mean we have a faster car... i rather have the car that traps 7 and 8mph higher then the car that runs a bit quicker cause of the launch.......cause after the launch the civic is the one pulling harder then hell and all i care about i the feeling i get
Was wondering the same thing myself. For 30K you could have turboed quite a few POS civics.
One thing I don't see mentioned here is that, in my experience, a turboed civic almost always requires a lot more maintenance and is almost guaranteed to go boom after about a year in boost. They just don't have that strong of internals and in combination with the high compression and high rev ranges....just add boost...only a matter of time before the fireworks start.
All I know for sure is that every turbo civic that I've ran against gets so exasperated when I put 10 car lengths on them out of the hole that they invariably spin up in smoke. Happens like clockwork...followed by "wanna run from a roll"...followed by my "no...I won already, what else is there to prove". If someone really pushes it I'll say "OK..from a roll..but I choose it the road and I'll pick the nastiest curved road I can find...now hang with me boieeeee"....

Racing from a roll really is like masturbation. Cause you don't even need someone else to do it. You can just drive along the freeway by yourself and punch the gas. woohoo, I'm racing, look at me!!! You'll still get that feeling you're talking about.
Now, from a stop with someone next to you, that's anticipation, nervousness, competition...i.e., a race.
Not sure about you, but I wouldn't want a fast car unless I lived in Germany anyways. A quick car is the way to go in the US. With now speed limit and buttery smooth pavement, sure'd I'd take a Supra and go wild on the autobahn, but around town here?? Nah, no thanks. Have you seen the construction on I94 in Milwaukee?? You want to go through that at 120mph? I'd rather have fun getting up to speed quickly, myself.

Having driven in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Australia, Brazil, and Argentina, I can attest to the fact that what we like over here is torque baby....not top end but that raw grunt of power out of the hole. Why do you think the 0-60 testing was propagated from the US...because that is where we want to feel our power.
What this actually attests to is the over the top amount of stoplights, stopsigns, and traffic jams we have. I can only wish that we could all learn to drive like they do in the UK or Germany, and would consider it a miracle if the round-a-bout was not only widely used here but that all US drivers could actually use them without panicing (since I've seen them here and there but US drivers don't have clue how to drive in them)
Here is a link to a sohc 11 second hatch. My buddy has built a civic a lot like this but with a larger turbo and is looking to put down hp numbers in the 400s without nitrous on the dyno sometime this week. keep in mind this is sohc.
