So I am driving my girlfriend to work, and pull up beside a silver Supra with huge exhaust and skunk wheels. The kids inside were rocking out, so I didn't get to talk to them, plus we were at a dual left-hand turn light... no race there.
Luckily we got caught up side-by-side at a light down the road. So I ask him, "what year is it?" Turns out it is a 97, and an anniversary edition silver to top it off. From what I could see in the cockpit, no gauges or anything. And his CEL was on to top it off. Couldn't tell if it was an auto or manual.
What does the kid say mid sentance, with a mouth full of braces... "you wanna run em?" I politely say... "I've got nothin." Either way, I know I have to give it a little bit. No launch at all, and we both get on it at the green light. By 80, he is less than a half a car length in front of me.
I am thinking what the heck? Here we go again, another light...I launch pretty good this time, and two good shifts and I am in front, by 1/2 car length.
It is a busy road, so we slow off. All he says... "Is that a wrx? You don't have any stickers on it. That was fun." And turns right.
Should that have happened? Are supras weak stock? Like I said, all I saw was a huge exhaust on it, but I don't have much done either. Prodrive stage 2 w/spt exhast & an intake. What was the deal here, was that a legit kill?

It was definately turbo. Had the decal, and it was the fully loaded "Anniversary Edition" I just looked them up.
It's hard to tell w/out knowing what other mods he had. My understanding is that you can mod the holy bejebus out of those things, that being said, I'm gonna say nice kill !![]()

Yeah, I rode in one before, but it was a shop car. Single turbo, nos, 6 spd. It would make you vomit. Check it out...my buddy's shop in Ft. Collins, CO.

This one seemed stock... I was just wondering about the numbers. On paper are they faster, both with little mods (wrx & supra).
Found this on i-supra.com :

Well good... I hope I meet him again, before he learns how to drive... and hopefully also some more wrx drivers will be around.
Maybe I am just celebrating inside. The girlfriend was happy too, even though she said that the car was "pretty". Ha![]()
remember, this car is just about ten years old, and it probably has a lot of hard miles on it...
but i still say nice kill..![]()

Nice Kill. I am not surprised either. I mean those weigh a few hundred pounds more. I mean with your mods Id say it was legit. He may or may not be a good driver. All I know is that it would probably come down to a drivers race or maybe in this case lack thereof.
if that really was a 97 twin turbo supra, that kid is by far the crappiest driver ever. you can get 400+whp out of a stock TT supra w/ just full exhaust, intake, boost cut controller, and MBC

it was an auto TT with a CEL...good kill ! those things are still fast, usually
It was auto, it had a CEL so was probably running on a dying turbo or something. Chances are all he had was a catback and was running high 13's
