    03 Evo8 vs. 05 LS2 Vett

Going to work on the highway, I see a bright red car with crystal blue lights comming up fast behind me. I think nothing of it until he got next to me. I looked over and it was a an 05 LS2 Corvette. Then the guy smiled and took off but then slowed down. I knew he was waiting for me. So I took off after him and got next to him and waived a forward motion. At 80mph, I dumped it into 4th gear and he got on it too. Instantly, I was slowly walking away. Slammed it into 5th gear and I'm still pulling. We shut down at 130mph and I had a good 2 cars on him. Afterwards, he just stayed behind and then just flew by. I waived at him but he didn't even look over. What a poo poo........

Wow. Two car lengths on a car that basically weighs the same and has the same RWHP as your AWHP (unless your sig is outdated), and from a 80mph rolling start to boot!

Wonder what would have happened had he been as good a driver as you?

I wouldnt chalk it up to the driver, I havent looked it up but I would bet that the Vette is geared alot longer than the Evo. Someone whos driven one might be able to correct me or back me up, but dont they redline 1st gear at almost 60? I would assume that the rest of the gears are probably rather long as well, so with the same weight and whp that could deffinatly make a big difference, especially since the evo is a very close ratio for rally racing.

And especially up that high i would think that the sizable difference in gearing could easily be 2 or more cars, especially since the Evo's tranny is geared for about 100 less hp.

Well, here are the ratios, I guess people can judge from this. We don't want to assume he was/wasn't a 6 speed though.

    6-Speed Manual C6
    1st Gear Ratio: 2.97:1
    2nd Gear Ratio: 2.07:1
    3rd Gear Ratio: 1.43:1
    4th Gear Ratio: 1.00:1
    5th Gear Ratio: 0.71:1
    6th Gear Ratio: 0.57:1
    Final Drive Ratio: 3.42:1

    EVO 8 listed
    1: 2.928:1
    2: 1.950:1
    3: 1.407:1
    4: 1.031:1
    5: 0.720:1
    Final drive: 4.529:1

Vette owners don't seem to like getting beat. A friend of mine and I were leaving his neighborhood in his 575awhp Talon when we came across a new C6. Once we got on the highway we raced and beat him. He wouldn't look over or anything even though we both love that car. I was trying to give him a thumbs up but he wouldn't even look over.

    Oh well.

Hey guys, this was in Colorado elevation so those N/A Vetts aren't that fast up here. I think if I was at sea level, it would be very hard to keep pace with this guy on the highway. Either way, Z06's and the new 05 Vett is very fast. I might have to upgrade the turbo once the 06 Z06 comes out next year. We'll see....

Which magazine did you get the numbers from? The C5 and C5 Z06 numbers vary depending on what magazine numbers are used.
