Finally a decent car to race. I was on my way home from my hockey game last night on Randall road. It was around 10pm so there were no cars out. He looked pretty stock, aside from the nice sounding exhaust. But it just looked like he put on exhaust tips.

I was behind him in a turning lane at a light and didn't think he would go, but when the light turned, he peeled out around the left turn. (I could tell he had an automatic trans because he rolled out quite a bit with his brake lights still on and we were slightly uphill) I decided not to give chase because he was already too far ahead, but the next light up ahead turned red . Lined up next to him and got a great launch. Left him about 1 1/2 cars back through 1st and pulled a bit more in 2nd. In 3rd, he started slowly gaining ground, and I shut down at 100 which is about the 1/4 mile mark with him about a car or so back. Of course he did a flyby But then slowed down to pace me. He threw up some kind of hand signal (finger maybe? but I couldn't see through his tint that well) Then punched it.

I was ready for him to punch it and we hit it at the same time. Starting from around 50 I first pulled him to about my back bumper where he stayed. Neither of us were pulling on each other up through about 110. At 110 he started crawling super slow on me and I shut down at 120 with him at my drivers side door. Of course he kept going and blew the next red light to show me the domestic powAr.

I am torn on whether to think if it was an LT1 or LS1.

I could see you see beating an LT1 from a roll, but it would not not catch up from a dig like this car did around 100mph.

So then I am thinking it was an LS1, because that sounds about right that you run mid 13's and held him off until 100mph.... but then you won from a roll, which shouldn't happen.
Do you know if it was an LT1 or LS1?

I wondered this myself. I didn't see any other badging but the Z28 in the bottom right. The LS1's have badging don't they? I think it was more of an LS1 by the way he hung with me. Maybe from a roll his car didn't downshift or whatever. Weird stuff happens on the street.

Did you see his headlights? if they were sunk into the front car it was a LT1, if they were rounded and sticking out past the hud it was a LS1.

nice kill, dont you love domestic kill? im thinking it was an lt1 with some mods but not much. I raced a stock lt1 on the freeway with my sti with downpipe and cobb stage 2 reflash. 80mph roll me in 4th and even at those speeds i destroyed him. I'm thinking a cobb stage 2 wrx should be able to pull on that. My friend who used to have a lt1 camaro (now has a ss ls1) says it was stock and he was in my car so i believe him.

yep, that is an LS1. Now that I think about what happened from a roll was not that strange. My buddy has a T/A LS1 and its auto. Sometimes he would floor it and the trans would only kick down one gear leaving him a larger disadvantage.

I am no way surprised by this out come. If he was a stock ls1 auto I think he'd be looking at a mid 14 second car. IIRC your wrx is a swapped turbo with an auto right? If the slush box didnt grab the right gear you'd be set. I doubt he traps that much higher then you anyway.
