    C6 Redux

A while ago, I posted about an encounter with a C6 the a few folks found a bit hard to swallow. Had another encounter today. Twice....both stoplight to stoplight. First one, rolling along next to a DSM waiting for him to take the plunge when a C6 comes blasting through in the far right lane (3 lanes). I immediately hammered it, stopped his walk, then had to hit the brakes for a light. Lined up next to him, both of us trying hard not to look over at the other (we both peaked though ). Anyways, light turns green, and I wasn't sure he would go for it, so I rolled out normal, he punches it, we manage to get to 3rd gear and I start to creep a bit. Next light hits and we both break. I look over at him and give him a thumbs up. He looks at me and does the "damn...I wouldnt' have thought that was that fast" look, and gives a thumb up in reply. Rolled my passenger window down and gave him props on his ride. He said thanks. I said wanna go again. He says.."didn't you get enought yet"...kinda chuckling in a non-mean way. I say "Lets go..betcha I get you to the next light". He bites and says "no way...lets go". Light turns yellow, we both start revving. Green light, I nail the launch, getting a little sidways...he squeals but no smoke. Instant 2 car lengths and he couldn't get me even through 2 lights. Went to top of 4th (around 95 or so) and still had 2 lengths. He just shakes his head an smiles...after all..he's still in a pimpin' C6 and I'm in a box with wing.

HA!!!!! Soooo....there it is. Believe it or not.

It can sure be done. I got a ride in a 300whp STi and we definitely got sideways a few times taking off and turning.

I've driven a 300whp STi, and when you mash the gas while going about 10mph in 1st gear, the car feels like its about to go sideways. It took me by surprised so I let off. Its mad scary cause i wasnt used to it. I'm sure you can get an STi a little sideways on takeoff.

Maybe a few of my friends will chime in here that have ridden in it. Believe me...totally possible. In fact, on snow tires going uphill, you can do it in 2nd gear too! Found this out by accident and scared the bejeesus out of me.

You can do it with a stock STi too. Did it on Friday while doing skid pad exercises. It didn't get crazy sideways but it definitely stepped out to the right. The weird part was it didn't stepout until about 1/2 second after the launch (probably as the tires stopped spinning.) That was in auto too...tires were slightly damp from the wet skidpad and rear tire pressure was ~38psi.

I've read about guys launching in open-mode (DCCD dial all the way back) in stock STi's at the track getting sideways. I can only imagine what a stage 2 must feel like launching.

Its actually very easy. The STi has a tendency to drive like a rwd vehicle. With enough wheel spin off the line it does get sideways. I've done it several times at the track and on the street.

Also good kill on the C6.
STi's are the masters of the stop light to stop light races

Agreed...I'm sure he would have smoked on by me if had went another 5 seconds longer (or less).
