    JDM V8 Vs. SRT-4

Well I just finished writing bat my run in with a SRT-4.

I was quite impressed at it's speed straight away.

    My car:
    2002 wrx
    2004 JDM STI V8 motor
    RA-gears
    vf-37

    Him:
    SRT-4 stock

Anway, sat night coming home from a subaru meet in Danbury, ran the Brln Tpk for a hot second to see what/who was out. To my surprise there were quite a few cars there. After spending some time in a parking lot, I was getting anxious and wanted to see someone run a little. It was kinda cold and the 5.0 were smoking the tires, clogging my lungs and breaking my eardrums in the lot, while one of my friends was watching everyone gzz on his lexus cuz it's oh so pretty. And it is. Anyway, an SRT-4 rolls by, we fly to the car and follow him out just as the Po-Po rolls in kicking everyone out anyway. I get next to him and we both slow down at to abt 20ish, no horns just a jump by him so i hit it and keep up, pull slightly thru second, then we shut down due to cars ahead.

WTF!!!!! I cudn't believe it was that fast. Props to those cars. So we pull up next to him at a light, about 4 cars deep each, and i asked if he was stock, he said he was, and he asked the same, I said no exhaust and tune. So he was like, hmmm

We went again same speed and this time i stomped on it, got and even jump, put abt 2-3 cars thru 2nd and more into 3rd so i shut down. every other time yeilded same results. next light I todl him nice run, and rolled down teh windows adn we talked a little. then i rolled down the rears and he noticed my 3rd passenger, he was solo, shud have showed him the truck, over 100 lbs of brakes, flywheel, clutch etc.

His look was like even more

So I told him I did an STI swap, he said your car is realy fast...!!!!

    It is

    v8 = version 8. Not 8 cylinders.

Does the KTR dyno read low? I would think a sti with exhaust and a reflash would make more.

Check out their website, it is a ball buster if you ask me. Srock USDM STI puts down ~ 220 whp. That seem slow to me. Abt 16-19 % lower than most arnd New England. For an example, before I tuned I ran a buddy's wrx with 304 whp, I was at 258 untuned, and pulled him. he dynoed at a local place here in CT.

Nice runs, ya the stock v.8 JDM STI motor is stronger then people think, and your not even running the optimal 6spd. A lot of people like to believe the USDM STI is faster, but it's not the case.

I need to dyno mine soon also. Im expecting to see about 290whp+

Don't you love how smooth the engine is? You have the AVCS hooked up right?

HELL YEAH!! It is smoooooth. I have AVCS working. Go to ktrperformance.com, find teh dyno plots page, and i am under 2002 wrx with 278.7 hp. Strong engine with a TON under the curve. This sat I am tuning again with sumemr 93, and I got a 9lb and 18 lb helper spring i might use, see what i am at then. !!!!

Nice.. If you don't mind me asking what did the swap cost ya? I just got a 2002 that I was planning on modding to about 300whp and I'm wonding if it might be better to do a swap and save the mods for later.

I wud say if you havnet modded swap. It prob cost me 10k for everything, encluding some install, and a lot of custom fab. Just depends on how much you actualyl need to replace. I needed new Diffs, tranny, motor, custom exhaust, all that crap. ANd I did it right this time, TMIC, everything is top notch and tuned correctly. That was abt 1200 too. But it has unbelievable power and smoothness and if you look at my graph compared to the one above it which is a wrx motor with same hp, but much less torque, ull notice the diff in area under the curve. that speaks for itself!

I'm stage 2 now with parts waiting for install to stage 4.. I could sell them but I think a stage 4 will keep me happy for now. I love my WRX but I do miss the power I had with my IROC (422rhp). After all that work I don't have the time to take on that big of a project again. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I agree. That's why I asked. I recalled that KTR dyno as being a tad low compared to the dynojets that I've seen.

Good kill. That's why my avatar over at srtforums says "I DONT RACE DYNOS" .lol

KTR's dyno is quite the heartbreaker. Stock WRXs get about 140-145 there. Their dyno page (http://www.ktrperformance.com/servic...graph_main.htm) has lots of graphs from exotics that they work on, and I love bench racing my car (264.4whp) against them. I have 9 more hp to go before I surpass the Testarossa!

Your car must kick ass with the high revs and RA gears. I'm getting some put in next week, and next month KTR is tuning my car for an 18G. 360 Stradale graph, watch out! 550 Maranello? My graph'll whoop you in a year!
