i mounted my passport between the roof and the rearview mirror. i tapped into the power source for the rear view mirror. it turns on and off with the key. i tied the gound to the screw that holds the little flip down visor.

it's an older Passport 4500, (but will get either a 8500 soon) and have had great range with this setup.

I simply unscrewed the map lights, tapped into the yellow wire in the cluster above there, then used the screw holes that hold up the map lights for my ground.

I have the detoctor right underneith the rearview mirror. I used this same method in my previos car for 3+ years and it worked like a charm. only took about 15 min.
I asked this a while ago, but. I was looking at by telephone line, there are 4 wires in it, which one do I use to suply the power and which for ground? Also for those of you who tapped into the mirror, can you guys tell me which pin is the hot one on the harness?

Also, If any one is interested I'm looking to upgrade to a X50 8500 or a V1, so my regular 8500 is for sale. It's about 3 months old and used it very little since my car has been sitting in a shop for over a month now.

for the escort 8500 the RED wire in the telephone line is positive and the GREEN wire is negative.

I have the detector on the left side instead of the middle so it isnt as obvious. Having it up top wired into the lights seems kinda unnecessary, and it takes out one of the lights. Also, doing it through a switch in the dash made it easier to wire it to an accessory so it automatically goes on and off with the car, which you cant do with the light without a lot more wire.
