Hey guys, I have been looking for a wrx lately and i came across a 2005 forester xt. It looks really nice but i had a few questions. Not really sure if any of you have much experience with foresters but thought i would post anyways.
I was wondering if the xt is comparable to a wrx.
Are there any downsides to them? I would imagine that insurance would be cheaper but idk.
If anyone has any advice for me its greatly appreciated.
The 2005 XT uses the same EJ257 long block out of an STi, albeit with the smaller TD04 turbo and different ECU programming.
Because of the short 4.44:1 F/D, they can be deceptively quick in a straight line with stock cars pushing 13.5 seconds in the quarter mile (despite the 210hp advertised power). The blessing is also a curse, since the short F/D will put the car at about 4000rpm at 70mph making for a very buzzy commute. Some suspension work, a VF39, and ECU programming will make the Forester XT quite the sleeper.
I was going to say this. A few bolt on's and it will beat the Sti in 0-60 and likely the 1/4 mile. (How to go faster than an STI for cheap! - Subaru Forester Owners Forum) I have seen videos of the XT destroying the STI in Auto X and Rally X. It really is a good platform and chassis and I personally wouldn't mind trading my wrx for it. It uses the Ej255, which is basically a "baby" 257.
According to the info posted, early variations of the EJ255 used the B25 heads unlike the D25 heads used in contemporary EJ255s. That's news to me. This means the early EJ255 is essentially an EJ257. This would be consistent with other data. Thanks.
I didn't know they were that closely related, guess we were both right and learned something lol. Either way Op should get an XT if he can find a good one and can afford it.
before the wrx I looked all over New England for a decent forester xt with a manual and couldn't find one, it's a unicorn I tell yeah! I love the looks and functionality of the xt and if they ever made the new model with a manual I'd jump all over it. It's just a cool car with sleeper written all over it.
