Welcome. Unfortunately the only sti you will find for 10-12k will be either salvage title, blown engine, or have a zillion miles on them.
As far as a used sti being high maintenance, it depends on how the previous owner took care of it

My friend has a '05 STI, and i just love it..very fun...
I've driven wagons in last few years, but would like to drive a fun car now...
have $10-12K to spend, and don't want a maintenance hog, but something very reliable.
Are used ('05-'07) STI require lots of maitenance (low mods vs hi mods) ?
thanks!

Hey, welcome to the forum.
Sorry to say, but you are not going to find a used STI in that price range that won't be a POS. An 05 sti with 120k miles in good condition is worth $16k still. Bugeye WRXs in good stock shape are still almost $10k.
Good luck with your searching and stick around, learn a bunch, save some money, and pick one up in a couple years![]()

Otherwise for 10-12K you're not going to get close to a "decent" used 05-07 wrx let alone a STI.

SUCH IS MANGO!
As others have stated, a 10-12k sti is guaranteed to be a money pit. Buy a clean bugeye or lease/finance a new wrx.
