    trade in 2012?

Ok I could be stupid for thinking about this, but the idea s stuck in my head.... I have a 10k miles 2012 wrx right now and I'm not super happy with it right now. There is a 2007 STi with 36k miles for sale in my area that has been on the market for over 200days. It was on sale when I bought my wrx and the price was $31k but has now dropped to $28.8k. I looked on truecar.com and they said the market value was around $24.5k which I would ask like $23.5/$24k. Would this be a stupid idea to do? I have loved the look of the 06/07 STi since it has been out and have wanted an STi since I was like 13 (2003). I know the ultimate decision is mine. Just want ideas. Thanks everyone.

I would take a read through this thread. Contemplating jumping from an '11 WRX to an '07 STi. Thoughts?

2007s are notorious for bad tunes. Check the car fax see if it has been in the shop for awhile at any time. Personally the 11-13 models aren't worth gettin rid of for the 02-07s it's an entirely different car. Having owned every year now I like my 11-13s the best for an every day car. If you want just a weekend hot rod then the 02-07 STi modified will fit nicely but an every day performance car with great feel and drive ability is the newer body style.

I haven't owned an older STi but I've driven a few stock to heavily modified and I agree with you on this one.

Also, I wouldn't even consider a used wrx or STi unless it was a one owner with all maintenance records.

Ya it is one owner. I will check carfax. It said 19 reports. But I didn't spend the $40 for the report.

Just to give you an idea. I got my 2012 WRX Sedan Base for $24,000 and 9 months later I traded it in for a 2013 WRX Hatch. I was able to get $23,500 on a trade in, which is only a $500 loss. Overall, the 2013 barely cost me anything.

$500 loss plus the 9months worth of payments spent.. Don't forget that.

Yeap, I got my brand new 2012 for $24k (that also included the short throw shifter, dimming mirror and all weather mats) + taxes + $165 doc fee and $145 plate transfer. On my trade for the 2013 Hatch I only had to pay tax on the difference....

    You lost me there?
Payments go towards the pricncipal so no loss there, unless you count the $100 in interest I paid.

You paid a car payment for 9 months and added that much more to the loan of your new car. So sure your interest rate for the 18months basically.

$500 in the price difference + another $165 in doc fee + $145 plate transfer + $200 in interest is something I can definitely live with.

I really don't mind spending $1,000 every year on a brand new car. That adds up to $5,000 per 5 years. Now, if I would keep my car for 5 years then it would have cost me more than $5,000 to replace it with a new one. I'm also saving money on all the maintenance that I don't have to do if I change a car every year. That's a win win in my book.
