Should I buy a WRX?

Hello,

I have been looking for sometime into getting a new 2012 or 2013 base WRX. I really love the car, and think I am going to go ahead and make the plung. First I have so questions for those of you who own wrx's. first what do you love about the car? what do you not love about the car? I know Subaru had some engine issues are these all resolved in the newer models? Are there any other known issues besides some fluttering and small things similar that don't pose a large threat? how much on average do you spend on maintenance for a wrx?

if you can answer any or all of these questions please do, also feel free to give me any other input.

the only thing i dont like is the stereo.


i have a 2012 WRX Premium. i've already done a few mods and the car is a daily driver.


things i had to gets used to:

clutch, not having power seats, cheap base stereo and no lumbar support in a $29k car. -just my opinion and i still love the car.

it's allrelative though. i'm about to hit 3k miles and have no complaints. its a "performance car"

What is it that took getting used to with the clutch? And ya those are things that shouldn't be lacking in the car but the are relatively easy to fix.

Love the engine power and turbos torque. Hate the stereo. I have a bit of rattling from rear deck. I fixed it with sound matt. I was offered 2 years maintenance for free. Which I just used up all the free oil changed. Beyond that, maintenance has been great. Not to much.

It is nice that the Subaru dealership likes the minor mods like exhaust, tint, etc.

That's a good deal ill have to see what the dealer will offer me in terms of maintenance. Ya I don't won't to mod to much but tint will be the first thing I do when I get the car.

Talk with the mechanics and find out what they see and allow at the dealership.

I have a bugeye and I love everything about it. It's very basic interior which some might not like but I prefer simplistic interior even on the newer models its still very basic.

Maintenance wise on wrxs they can be a pain IMO I have more maintenance with the wrx than my last car, but you got to expect that with any performance car.

Yeah, i added a sound processor, amp and subwoofer.

Went Stage 1 via Cobb AP
H11 low beams changed out for H9 hyper whites
DRL/hi beams & fogs upgraded to yellow 3100k bulbs
Weathertech floor liners
35% tint
OEM Cargo net in the trunk
OEM bumper guard

-waiting on my cobb short throw shifter / bushings and my winter wheels / tires

Probably go Stage 2 in springtime...

The issue I assume you are referring to affected only a particular number of 2009 models built within a certain time frame.

As stated, the very limited run of engine issues was cleared up a long time ago.

I wonder where people are all of a sudden coming up with the idea that flutter (assume this refers to the wastegate) is anything other than normal operation of the wastegate. It doesn't harm anything - just what happens at that level of boost/throttle input to maintain the desired boost level. It is very different from surging which is hard on things. Have there been any reports of surging?

Get the car. You will love it. I bought mine and have fallen in love with it. I have had a wrangler and still have a dodge cummins and this car is by far my favorite!

O and the stereo works just fine. You just have to use the right settings

When in doubt ,or even otherwise, test drive the car before you decide to buy it.
