If it's modded I would steer clear. You're going to want to make sure it has the stock ram air, stock boost control solenoid. Check the bolts on the downpipe to see if they have been touched..

Was wondering if anyone could run the Vin for me. I called and they're asking around 8k for it. I'm a mechanic, so I have some experience. Just hoping to avoid spending 30 bucks for a car fax. Also if anyone has some advice as of what to look for specifically in an 03 wrx let me know. I've read all the stickies, and but any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

I would advise the same. Dont buy it modded. The problem I have is I still can not figure out this misfire code issue and hesitation. My 02 was modded already when I bought it. So fixing it is not too easy right now. But eventhough I love it, it's hard to fix until you figure out whats what on the car and could cause the issue. Needless to say mines still not right.
And yes you can run a VIN check anytime and its free. It only tells you though if it has been reported stolen. Unless you want the history then you pay.
Okay thanks, I'm on my way there now. Let you guys know how it goes.

Hey guys. I its pulling code p0483, cooling fan. Took it to a mechanic and checked it. I he erased the code and didn't come back for the rest of the trip. It was on when I checked it out. I got a Carfax and it was in a small fender bender, and no frame damage, airbags didn't deploy. I talked him down to 7700. I've seen all his paperwork and he has 7300 into the vehicle with the repairs he had done. Can get more details, provided buy heading home to pick up the wife. Let me know what you guys think. I he's also had it for 3 months

Why is he selling it only after owning it for 3 months?

I hate to burst your bubble, but that car has a turbo timer, and generally speaking, slapping turbo timers on WRXs shows just how little the person researched before modding. I'd be concerned.

On the second look and drive with my wife, and it started overheating. I went ALL the way to the max heat scale. I glad I drove it again. Drove back immediately and let them know, I they're going to take to a mechanic and call me back. I've lost interest in this vehicle, and gonna keep looking or end up buying a new one.

It wasn't working, I've decided to just try and get a new wrx. I don't think this is the type of car i personally would want to buy used anyway.

I know when my radiator fan stopped working I just replaced the fuse and it was good to go! Yeah, its always sketchy buying one of these cars used!
