I'm guessing there is already an answer to this, but:

You have a much better chance of getting under or close to invoice if ordering from the factory rather than choosing from the inventory. However, what if the car is in inventory at another dealer and you are requesting a dealer trade? Instead of waiting for the trade, I could simply drive to the other dealer and buy it from them. So would my closer dealer be more open to negotiating if he knew that car I wanted was already ready to buy at another dealer?

Not really, you're pretty much boned either way. Some dealers do not even trade with other certain dealers. Dealers also prefer not to do dealer trades if they do not have to, so they will typically want a bit more for the car to do it. They lose holdback credit if it's a swapped car of about 500, so right off the bat most will want at least that much extra.... On the other hand the dealer with the car in stock knows they have the hot product and probably will be able to sell for a high price, so why give it to another dealer or sell for invoice? Especially when they are getting all these calls from dealers who want the car because they don't have any. It's just supply and demand. If you're in LI and can wait 6-8 weeks you'll probably be able to save at minimum a thousand dollars to order it through me. Patience is a virtue as they say.

Unless your aftermarket boost guage directly causes a problem (ie you cause a boost leak during install or something) they should not give you a hard time about it. IF they do, worst case scenario, you could bring it here, I'm in NJ too.

Yeah, I had my dealer give me the car for $300 under invoice if they get it from the dealer I want. Otherwise it's still $300 under if I have to order it. I think I got an OK deal.

That is for the standard impreza right? Should be much easier for them to get that swap than a wrx so I doubt you'll need to order it, but either way a good deal.

Wow I wish I would have found this thread while I was in process of ordering my WRX. Anyway rex, I ordered a 2013 premium WRX 5doors for $200 over invoice price. Do you think it's a decent deal or should I try to haggle more?

Well you already made the deal with them and ordered a car so it's a bit late to haggle more. It sounds like a good deal anyway, congrats on the new wrx!

They have not told me anything yet but I'm sure we will have them coming or at least be able to order them but they are only making 300 so I'd try to order it as soon as possible if a customer wants one.
