Hey fellas, been a while since I been on here. I'm no longer a highschool senior with 6 hours a day free for interweb surfing . However I have been working and that means saving money which means time to build/repair the STI!
Been talking back and forth with a few people and am pretty much finishing up the research portion (research will never end, but what I'm trying to say is I've pretty much selected the parts I want/need.) Now I'm entering the part purchasing stage.
As some of you may know, my motor crapped out on me for the second time at the end of this summer, and I finally said okay time to go with upgraded components. I work at a shop and am buddies with one of the tech's who used to be an NHRA mechanic (Subaru is no drag car, however hes working on EVO's and BMW project cars constantly for customers, and has very good experience and I trust him to do a fine job. He's also willing to let me hang around as he does it (lend a hand and learn a bit), and the price is outrageously generous.
Parts I hope to order this week:
- CP Pistons, 99.5 bore and 9.0:1 CR
- Manley Turbo Tuff l beam rods
- King or ACL (undecided yet) rod and main bearings
- KILLER B oil pickup
- ARP head Studs
-OEM short block (have a hookup to get a block at dealer pricing so I may as well start off brand new and maybe use my current block for something in the future.)
- OEM gasket kit
On top of this I will be going with an aftermarket turbo, and then down the road, maybe a month or so after its all together, I hope to do headers, a catback, sways and endlinks. Then next winter hope to do suspension and big brakes before doing a full build (rotated turbo, FMIC, etc) but that's a year away so I don't want to get ahead of myself!
Please avoid bashing, I don't need suggestions on how I'm doing things unless its excruciatingly incorrect. I know the builder isn't THE BEST person around to do it, but I simply cannot beat the price, and the opportunity to watch it and learn as it goes.
Still researching turbo's as well, so suggestions on those would be great.
Goals for now are to build to block to handle what is thrown at it (clearly the stock block couldn't.) Want a quick, reliable DD.
