    '12 dgm hatch - $5k tuning budget?

Hello all! I've been here for a long time, but have never created a build thread, so here goes!

    Goal:
To create a finely tuned, stock looking wrx, capable of considerably more than a stage 2 tune.

    Currently:
    Engine:
    CNT Racing catless downpipe
    Torqued Performance Stage 2 tune

    Interior:
Anarchy Motive heavy ass shift knob
Weather Tech floor mats(best investment ever)

    Drivetrain:
Spt short shifter (looking for a used Kartboy)
    Kartboy shifter bushings

    Exterior:
Subaru bike rack (lol maybe not supposed to be on this list)
    Blurbatmobile smoked taillight overlay
    Debadged
    Tint(30%)

So, with this in mind, I will upload some pictures tomorrow & formulate a plan of attack..

Is $5k enough of a budget to significantly enhance my power numbers? I am not terribly concerned about suspension modifications as we really don't have any good curvy roads where I live.

Where do you live? Would you be doing the work on your car yourself or would you be paying for labor for parts installation?

I live in central Kansas so I'm pretty far away from a pro-tuning place(I think). I will be doing the work myself.

You have a lot of E85 out there, right?

Where in Central Kansas? I live in Moundridge.

Fusionworks in Wichita can tune, but they don't have an awd dyno.

If you do.... I'd do a blouch GTX2867, an EBCS (eric likes grimmspeed), some 1000cc Injector Dynamics, a Walbro Fuel pump, Process West top mount intercooler, and a tune. That'll be probably around 3500-4000, and it'll give you a kick in the pants ride.

I live in Great Bend, an hour west of Moundridge. Small world man! I'll look into them. How can they tune without a dyno?

Sinister- I am honestly not sure about e85, i'll have to look into it. That is one hell of a shopping list! I'll get to doing the research!

Is that list for if I do a e85 tune?

Because you tune the car on the street. Every dyno tune should include a road tune cleanup afterwards anyways.

Very good to know. Its great there is someone fairly local! That setup above sounds awesome..would stock internals be fine?

That's for with or without e85. That'll net you probably 100whp over stock if not more out of the 91/93 tune... And maybe 150-175whp more out of the e85 tune!

That turbo will spool very well on both, and will really give you more fun than should be legally possible

Unfortunately no one can know for sure.

I had around 440whp (over 500 engine horsepower) when my engine finally blew... And it lasted 10k miles before it popped. I was wayyyy farther along the mod path than you though (look at my sig).

It's generally been regarded that an 18G is perfectly safe on an EJ255 or EJ257. And most people will say the same about a 20G. The GTX28 fits right between the two turbos. Mine was a GTX3071 (dominator 1.5XTR), I was on E85 and at 25psi boost with a lot of other things modified.

I can't guarantee that your car on the GTX28 will be fine... But based on the peak flow, it's reasonable to say that you're 99% safe on 91/93 and still very safe on a reasonably conservative E85 tune. A LARGE part of engine safety though is the tune. If the tuner isn't worth a damn... You can blow an engine on the stock turbo.
