After a long period of nothing...something new.
    GT Spec D-shaped Steering wheel

    Old vs. new

The GT Spec wheel feels solid. It's beefier than OEM and the leather is nicer than I imagined. As you can see it's smaller in diameter than OEM, so you have more legroom. I also just did the seat mod and I think I've found a really good driving position, which was a struggle for me in stock form. The GT Spec wheel is very nice and the install was straight forward. I can post photos of the install if anyone is interested.

The install was fairly simple and straight forward. Basically you have to remove the airbag, take off the old wheel, remove the audio controls, Bluetooth, reinstall the controls to the new wheel, bolt down new wheel, screw on airbag, and voila!

There's a few more details of course...I followed these instructions GTSpec Flat Bottom Wheel Review - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com

Here are some photos from the install.

The nut in the center holds the wheel in place.

Reinstall components on the new GT Spec wheel

    DONE!

I changed the engine oil today at 17,826 miles with Motul X-Clean 5W-30. Also, I installed a Cusco short Antenna and red Rays valve stem caps. Both were impulsive buys and do hardly anything for the car but add a touch of bling.

Some pics after the oil change.

Looks like an Acura MDX here, lol.

Last weekend I rotated my tires at 18,000 miles - StarSpecs have approximately 7k miles on them now. They're in good shape despite one of them being patched (screw).

Also, I was pretty tired of the weak OEM halogen light bulbs so I researched some brighter options. I was contemplating a PNP HID kit but thought better of it and decided to go with H9 bulbs. Reading some lighting threads on NASIOC, H9 bulbs have a better light output without adverse effects on wiring/electrical systems. I went ahead and purchased a pair of H9 bulbs at Autozone for around $30, modified the base, and replaced the factory bulbs. I should have taken pictures before the install for comparison. They're much brighter than stock, so i'm happy.

    Here are the results.

I just need to have someone drive my car behind me to make sure they're not blinding.

How do you modify the base?

There's an extra tab in the connector of the H9 bulb that the H11 does not have. Just clip it and install. When you compare the two bulbs, you'll be able to spot it easily.

Nice work so far man.. looking (and working) quite well. I did the H9 conversion a while back too.. made a huge difference.

As for sways.. the question arose about using a heavier bar out back. That might work but the problem with the understeer is more traction as the suspension dips in.. the tire is on its edge and looseing traction (front) and that's why we have so much push(understeer). Using a heavier rear bar reduces weight transfer out back and inducing a scenario where the rear will step out. Now, sure that combats understeer but now you have a problem where the front AND the rear are sliding around. We want to improve traction up front.. so exactly what Gomez found on the track.. improving the front bar helps to keep the front tires in the proper geometrical position to maintain traction and improves turn in without sacrificing rear traction. Doing the rear bar too helps with overall weight transfer and also works to keep the car more balanced. When I did my own, I tried to keep the factory size ratio front to rear just larger at both ends. Same as Gomez found, my car is now much more neutral and balanced but not rear happy enough to make street driving scary.
