Gotcha, well if you ever need an extra hand, let me know. I'm always down for drinking some beer and wrenching.

But differential work went no where last night. My neighbor wasn't around, but today looks more promising. A recent discussion on the ESP thread over on NASIOC has me about to spend another $90 on the diff side bearings as well. I was hoping they would be in good shape and I could just swap them over, but apparently I should just spend the money. Now to see how fast I can get them.

Just have to remember that all my local shops quoted me ~4-8 hours of labor to do this, so in the long run, I'm still saving myself some $$. Probably even more, considering the broken bolts, ginding the housing, and what not.

    Bearings or bushings?

Cause I'm ready to do the damn mount bushings. This diff clunk is killing me. I have them in hand, but trying to remove the studs holding the diff in is supposedly the most pain in the ass job on a Subaru ever.

Bearings, ones that the diff itself actually spin on. Problem already solved though, Fred Bean's Subaru will have them for me Friday.

The rear diff bushings aren't too bad though Mikie. It does require some brute force and ignorance, but overall, not bad.

Fred Beans! I forgot you were nearby! I remember going to Beans Subaru many years ago to test drive a WRX. They had a few sitting around that were in various stages of modification from the service center itself. They still that mod-friendly?

Yep, they are only about 25 minutes from me. What area are you in again? And suprisingly, they seem to be pretty mod friendly. They stock a boat load of aftermarket parts now, and when I brought in my car for the control arm recall, the service manager was asking me all kinds of questions about the mods i've done. Pretty cool place.

I've been following this thread for a while, it's awesome to see people do up the wrx for autox Did you buy a new rear LSD? I'd be very interested to know what you think of it when you get it installed. I was actually thinking about swapping to one sometime in the future. What made you go for this as opposed to a front LSD? Any thoughts on changing the center diff? Great thread!

Thanks! I'll definitely let you know how it drives after I get it installed and broken in. It's a brand new Carbonetics 1.5 way, but I bought a used diff housing to do the transplant. That way I can at least have a spare if something goes wrong or needs to be rebuilt.

I went with the rear LSD first, since it's supposed to make huge improvements in car rotation (almost scary improvements). Plans are to finish this, then go 1 way front LSD next winter possibly. I haven't decided on the center diff yet, but I have some time to do research for now.

They seem like a good family of dealerships. I'll probably check them out for my next DD, whenever that might happen.

Acetylene torch + vice grips = 5 broken bolts out in 30 minutes. I'll start reassembly Saturday morning after I get the new carrier bearings. Pictures to come!

I'm not sure you understand, Mikie wasn't talking about his car...

Or maybe you understood all too well
