Holy Smokes... I've never made one of these. I should have. I've had the car since 2006 when I got back from Iraq. Kind of a present to myself. Since then it's been a massive money pit... Incredibly fun... and an insane learning project. I've finally got the funds, room, and garage together to be able to turn her into a toy that I can drive to work, and then to the track! Should be a fun close to 400whp e85 beast

I've gotten almost all of the parts from WRXPro.com, TiC, and a few from RallySportDirect.

I've been asked to explain the turbo, because the blouch numbering system is totally jacked up... and no one seems to know anything about this turbo. They seem to think that because the number is so low, that it's a small turbo.

It is basically a GT3071r stock location designed to work with stock location inlets but with a billet wheel.

Here's the Blouch Dominator 1.5XT-R info:
Compressor: 71mm Billet
Compressor Inlet: 2.5” or 3.0"
Turbine: 56.5 mm
Center Housing: Water cooled
Bearing System: Full ball bearing


And the Garrett GT3071r info:

Nice, Kevin. Money pit on steroids. I think it is kind of a built in OCD when it comes to cars / modding, kind of like women and shoes or ridiculously expensive bags (which I will never understand).

Edit:

You may want to add a KillerB oil pickup to the list, for safety and peace of mind. It's a really nice/beefy piece and I am glad I did it for my build.

Also... Why the stock Sti catback? noise? It may hurt your numbers and flow a little bit. But, it may be worth it b/c even my Borla Hush is kinda loud for one of the quietest exhausts on the market.

Let me know what your max IDCs come out to be. I went ahead and bought the DW 1300cc injectors because the list price was the same as the 1000s. Then I ended up getting over $100 off by contacting the vendor directly and asking for a discount before I ordered.


I'm interested in your IDCs because I want to compare how my ball bearing 20g stacks up to the Blouch. I have a lack of AVCS, but my EWG should make up for that.. and FMIC vs. TMIC.. but similar builds none the less. Should be one hell of a ride.

A friend has an '06. His pickup cracked, but he has gauges and noticed the slight dip in oil pressure before anything bad happened.

I just plan on keeping a close eye on my gauge until I can get a new pickup, pan, and baffle.

Under what power level

Power level should have nothing to do with oil pickup failure. A larger turbo requires more oil, but that should have no effect on the causing the pickup failure. My pickup from my '05 did not have a crack. However, the weld was getting kind of grayish and ashy looking which leads me to believe that the weld was getting closer to failure/cracking.

Not all welds are created equal or even welding material/metal/rod used. My Perrin UPP recently started leaking due to a little crack at the weld and I could not hold over 10-12PSI. Had it rewelded and problem solved. I have had the Perrin UPP since '07 or so, not too long but I guess thats what happens when Perrin out sources products to Asia (probably China).

Why the all season tires? Maybe I misread your post. I dunno what the weather is like over in Denver to be honest, but I doubt it's enough to warrant all seasons over performance tires and cheapo winter/bad season tires.

Power level should have nothing to do with oil pickup failure.

He is running a TD06-20G with all supporting mods and a standalone ECU. I guess running at higher power could create slightly more vibration as the rocking couples could be magnified slightly. Doubt it makes as much difference as the consistency of the welds however.

I don't think the OEM pickups are even welded where they tend to fail, they're brazed.. cheap bastards.
