So is it a good idea to take your brazed pickup and put a weld on it or just get an aftermarket unit all together?

If anything I think that would make it more likely to fail. If you look at the pics, the tube itself cracks, not the joint. It's just too flimsy in the first place, then they over heat it when brazing, making it even more brittle.



I've got my new pan, pickup, and windage tray sitting on my piano now.. just waiting on my headers to ship from Japan.

There is a huge thread over on IWSTI about the xt/xtr turbos. Everybody seems really happy with them.

How do you like those Hankook? I'm thinking of picking some up as my tires are toast. Those seem to be my best bet, good ratings and cheap.

They're decent tires. At $100/corner, you can't beat them. There are better tires on the market, but you have to spend more to get them.

Very convincing... Blouch is convinced that on pump I'd be fine... but E85 the pistons would crack.

I don't love them. Basically I'd say they're acceptable. Sidewall is too soft. They're quieter on the road than my last set of tires. They stick like glue, and love the rain... but they don't "feel" sporty...

For the cost, and the length of time they'll last... they're awesome. Great performance street tire. Don't try and track them though... and there are better autoX tires out there.

I run the Ventus on my 911 and there's a lot of other Porsche guys I know that have switched over to them due to the cost. I get maybe 7-8k miles per pair out of my rears so I like saving money on tires!

They're not as good as the best ultra performance tires on the market, but they're usually 1/2-2/3 the price. The value for dollar you get out of them is really good.

Blast that 2.5! If I don't decide to go 06+ WRX or STi then that will be the first thing I save up for when we get out of the army.

I think they might be my best bet, I don't track my car and I only do a few autox. I'm still learning and I'm not very competitive.
