Wondering why you're keeping the STI rods...they are the weak link in your build if you're really going high HP like you were talking about. I've seen 3 or 4 cases of built engines blowing up cause they snap a rod.

yeah curious... I feel like I would go rods before I go pistons.... Why not get hardened rods while you're in there??
2015 CWP WRX STi ... But how did I get roped back into an EJ motor?!

STi rods are forged. Pistons are not. I talked to crawford (or cosworth.. can't remember off the top of my head) But they stated that the pistons are the weak link, and that the STi rods are a lot stronger than people give them credit for. They only recommended aftermarket rods, and aftermarket bearings over 500whp. They recommended pistons over 400whp.

Plus... I don't have to break the casehalves for the pistons.. I would for the rods. The cost goes up a lot if I do rods and bearings.

It was probably crawford. Their "stage 2" block is exactly what I'm talking about.

Curious. I have heard that the STi rods are the weak link in the motor. Sure, pistons are hypercast, but with a good tune will hold a lot of power. At the same time, the STi rods are stronger than the EJ205 rods, and those routinely hold 360+ whp, so I don't know...

This is pretty much the route I'm gonna go whenever my motor goes *pop* Actually it will probably go *screech* because it will die of oil starvation.

Boy am I! The pickup isn't my problem right now...I'm sorta leaking from the oil pan gasket. I think the oil pickup issue is unrelated. lol

I much prefer to troll on your thread.

I might stop by tomorrow so I can dump some random metal filings all over your motor. We'll have to take the Porsche for a ride too so you can see the difference from before. If you're nice I might let you drive it.....

I'm supposed to go down to the Springs and check out that wrecked STI to see if it's worth buying it and parting it out to make a few grand.

If you do, let me know. I need some pieces that my parts car lacked.
