Holy Smokes... I've never made one of these. I should have. I've had the car since 2006 when I got back from Iraq. Kind of a present to myself. Since then it's been a massive money pit... Incredibly fun... and an insane learning project. I've finally got the funds, room, and garage together to be able to turn her into a toy that I can drive to work, and then to the track! Should be a fun close to 400whp e85 beast :D

I've gotten almost all of the parts from WRXPro.com, TiC, and a few from RallySportDirect.

Update:
Just got done with the new tune. Made 430/429whp

I've got GREAT NEWS, and really bad news....

So... I melted the piss out of a piston, and put a hole through the stock block. So... resale of the block? Not happening. Also... the heat of the cylinder means I have to replace the valves in that cylinder.

But... the heads are good!! And there was no valve tapping! :D So my cams are good! :D

#397 ·
So do you want my old block now?

#398 ·
No... I bought a new block, and am putting CP pistons in it (see above).

Thanks though.

#399 ·
Only CP pistons? Thats what I put in my new STi block. You are running a lot more power then me too. I am just using your build thread as a guidance...I want to go with either a 20g xt or the dom 1.0 but not sure if just having forged pistons in my block will hold that power. Any reason why you are only adding pistons?

#400 ·
So the inherent question remains...WHY did the piston melt? Running lean as **** in that cylinder I assume...

#402 ·
The piston popped, then I tried to limp the car back, the car over heated, and the coolant was boiling. Me limping the car back melted the piston I would assume, because I went from having power and smoking to no power, then stopped the car.

#403 ·
I was pulling timing at the top, and at 12:1 AFRs. Then boom goes the piston... Sounds like a tuning problem to me....

#404 ·
Sounds like driver error to me..... :shakehead:

#405 ·
Yes it was... driving to that tuner.

#408 ·
sorry... I need to grow up, and let this go. He's a very nice guy, I just disagree with how things went down.

#410 ·
Well if he did a poor tune, he did a poor tune. It could have been a mistake. Maybe there is another variable that caused your car to behave the way it did?

#411 ·
Yeah unfortunate situation all around :sadwave:

You seemed to like the tune when you were making almost 400whp though...

#412 ·
That was before I did some data logs and was having knock issues

#413 ·
holy smokes... subaru valves are ridiculously priced.

#415 ·
Trying to stay OEM or are you going to go aftermarket?

#417 ·
Motor is back from the builder.

This car is costing me way too much money.

#418 ·
When is it going in?

#420 ·
Why so long? Work?
